To whom it may concern:

I am pleased to recommend Marissa Lizarraga for employment as a new graduate registered nurse. Ms.
Lizarraga successfully completed N470 Acute and Chronic Illness Management II at the University of
Arizona College of Nursing Fall 2014. This is a 10-credit course with a clinical practicum. This course
integrates theoretical and clinical content through use of the nursing process in the care of acutely ill
patients. Emphasis is place on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of human responses to
complex health problems.
I served as Ms. Lizarragas clinical instructor while she was enrolled in the Baccalaureate Nursing
Program at the University of Arizona. She completed her clinical practicum in the Medical Surgical unit
and Critical Care Units at St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. Clinical skills focus on tracheostomy
care, suctioning, assisting with ventilator management, IV therapy, titration of vasoactive medications,
management of chest tubes, placement and management of nasogastric/enteric feeding, and may other
acute care nursing skills. Both her academic and clinical performance was excellent. She demonstrated
advanced critical thinking skills in the application of pathophysiology and medical surgical concepts into
the care of critically ill patients. She also was able to apply and integrate theory into practice enhancing
both her confidence and comfort in providing care.
Ms. Lizarraga is a focused, loyal worker. She has many strengths that include the ability to critically
analyze problems, and present a possible solution. She has a warm, compassionate personality and gets
along well with patients, families and her peers. She eagerly accepts challenging situations and works
diligently to make the most of every learning opportunity. She compassionately advocates on behalf of
patients and their families. Ms. Lizarragas additional strengths are her excellent written and verbal
communication skills and her ability to keep a positive attitude. She has proven to be a team player and
extremely supportive of others.
Ms. Lizarraga had the opportunity to work in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit at Tucson Medical Center.
This experience combined with her volunteer work at Tucson Medical Center has solidified her desire to
work with the pediatric population. She is certified in BLS and ACLS. This achievement along with her
life experience will enhance her ability to be a great nurse. It is an honor to recommend Ms. Lizarraga for
employment as a nurse in her area of interest as I believe she will make significant contributions to the
nursing profession. She is intelligent, accountable student who is willing to work hard to meet her goals. I
believe she will one day be a leader in nursing.
If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

Kathleen Olivarez, RN, MSN, RN-C
