POA (Position of Attention)

Heels should be touching


Feet should be at 45 degree angles
Legs straight without locking
Head and Shoulder back as if your body
is in a straight line
Arms down straight down without
locking
Thumbs at the seam of your trousers
Fingers rolled up as if there is a roll of
dimes in your hands
Command is Parade, Rest and is also
the position we go to when the flight
commander says Flight! before
attendance.

Parade Rest

Cadet will move their left foot 12 inches


away from their right foot
Keep your body in a straight line as in
POA
Arms will go behind your back- the crevice
of your right thumb and point will go in the
crevice of your left thumb and pointer so
your right palm is facing out
Arms are still fully extended

Facing movements Left/Right

*These movements occur when you are in POA*


For a Right Face- slighty raise you right toes and your left heel and
pivot 90 degrees to the right

Make sure to keep the legs straight but not stif


Then bring the left foot forward so that your heels line up (upper body
stays at POA)
Feet should be back at the 45 degree angle
Hands remain at the seam at ALL times

For a left face, simply switch the directions to the opposite ones as listed

Command is Right (Left) FACE!

Facing movements (Continued) - About Face

Starting at POA
Lift the right foot up just enough to clear the ground
Without bending your knees place the ball of the raised right foot
about a shoe and a half length behind and slightly to the left of the
heel
Place all your weight to your right foot and heel of the left foot
Keeping the upper body at POA pivot 180 degrees to the right using
your hips to twist
Once completed, feet should be at 45 degree angles with heels aligned
Hands remain at seam the entire movement

Hand Salute/Present Arms

In POA
Cadet raises right hand from the seam in POA and places it in front of
their belly button
Once past the belly button the cadet flares the hand out, fingers still
touching
From there the cadet raises the arm so the middle finger touches the
end of the eyebrow
Thumb is tucked in so its not sticking out
This all happens in one motion

The command is Present, ARMS!


To release the salute the command is Order, ARMS!
You do everything listed above in reverse order

Forward March and Halt

Command is Forward, MARCH!


Marching forward from POA always starts with the left foot
Take a 24in step (heel to heel)
There is a swing with the arms that go along with the steps- right arm
goes out 6 inches from waist when left foot goes out and vice versa
The hand behind you goes behind 3 inches from the waist
Body stays straight and tall
Your Flight Commander will be counting a cadence for which foot to be
using when
When the commander says Flight, HALT! you take one step and the next
step you put your heels together and go back to POA

Eyes R/L

The command is Ready, FRONT!


These commands may be given at a halt or while marching
On the command all cadets, except those on the right (left) flank, turn
their heads and eyes 45 degrees to the right (left)
Note that it is not just their eyes- its their heads.
To return their heads and eyes to the front, the command Ready,
FRONT!

Double Time

To march in double time from a halt or when marching in quick time,


the command is Double Time, MARCH!
When halted and on the command MARCH, the airman begins with the
left foot, raises the forearms to a horizontal position along the
waistline, cups the hands with the knuckles out, and begins an easy
run of 180 steps per minute with 30-inch steps, measured from heel to
heel.
Flight commander will be calling a cadence

The command Half Step, MARCH! is given as either foot strikes the
ground.
On the command MARCH, the airman takes one more 24-inch steps
followed by a 12-inch step (measured from heel to heel) in quick time,
setting the heel down first without scraping the ground.
The airman maintains coordinated arm swing and continues the half step
until marched forward or halted.
To resume a full 24-inch step, the command Forward, MARCH! is given
as the heel of the left foot strikes the ground.
On the command MARCH, the airman takes one more 12-inch step with
the right foot and then steps out with a full 24-inch step with the left foot.

Right/Left Step

The command is Right (Left) Step, MARCH!


Its given only from a halt and for moving short distances.
On the command MARCH, the airman raises the right (left) leg from
the hip just high enough to clear the ground.
The leg will be kept straight, but not stif, throughout the movement.
The cadet places the right (left) foot 12 inches, as measured from the
inside of the heels, to the right (left) of the left (right) foot.
Transfer the weight of the body to the right (left) foot, then bring the
left (right) foot (without scraping the ground) smartly to a position
alongside the right (left) foot as in the position of attention.
This movement is continued in quick time; the upper portion of the
body remains at attention and arms remain at the sides throughout.
TO HALT- the preparatory command and command of execution are
given as the heels come together. The halt from the right (left) step is
executed in two counts.
On the command HALT, one more step is taken with the right (left)
foot and the left (right) foot is placed smartly alongside the right (left)
foot as in the position of attention.

Change Step

The command is Change Step, MARCH!


On the command MARCH, given as the right foot strikes the ground,
the cadet takes one more 24-inch step with the left foot.
Then in one count, place the ball of the right foot alongside the heel of
the left foot, suspend arm swing, and shift the weight of the body to
the right foot.
Step of with the left foot in a 24-inch step, resuming coordinated arm
swing.
The upper portion of the body remains at the position of attention
throughout.

To the Rear

The command is To the Rear, MARCH!


On the command MARCH, the airman takes a 12-inch step with the
left foot, placing it in front of and in line with the right foot and
distributes the weight of the body on the balls of both feet.
Then pivot on the balls of both feet, turning 180 degrees to the right,
and take a 12-inch step with the left foot in the new direction, with
coordinated arm swing, before taking a full 24-inch step with the right
foot.

The pivot takes a full count and the arm swing is suspended to the
sides as the weight of the body comes forward while executing the
pivot, as if at the position of attention.

Count Of

The command is Count, Of!


At the time, the element furthest to the right will say One!
The next element will say Two! and snap their heads to the right
The following element will say Three! and so on until the end
NOTE: the first element (the furthest to the right) does NOT snap their
heads to the right, they stay straight
Wait for further instructions at POA

Dress Right Dress

The command is Dress Right, Dress!


At this time, the cadets furthest to the right keep their heads forward and
put their left arm out evenly parallel to the ground- hand as if in a salute
The cadets furthest to the left move their heads 45 degrees but do NOT
move their arms
All the rest of the cadets do both.
Snap their heads 45 degrees to the right and their arms snap up parallel
to the ground
The objective is to have everyone about the same distance apart
You should feel the arm of the cadets on your right touching your
shoulder, and the shoulder of the cadet on your left touching your
fingertips
The release command is Ready, Front! and at this time all cadets go to
POA

Open/Close Ranks

The command is Open Ranks, March!


On the command, the last element will do an immediate dress right dress
All other elements will take the appropriate stepso However many elements are behind you, will be how many steps
you take (If there are 3 elements behind you, you take 3 steps)
After your element is done with the according steps, you all go to dress
right dress as well
The Flight commander or your element leader (whichever is appropriate at
the time) will say the command of Ready, Front! to release the dress
right dress
When the Flight Commander is ready, he/she will say the command Close
Ranks, March!
At this time the opposite of open ranks will happen, the last element will
take as many steps as elements in front of them and the first element will
take no steps.
You do NOT go to dress right dress
