WORK EXPERIENCE
Substantially Separate
Special Education Middle School ELA Teacher
Excel Academy, East Boston, Massachusetts
August 2014 August 2015

I created and taught modified curriculum ELA courses for

grades 5, 7, and 8 students with IEPs. 100% of my students
earned the highest possible score on the MCAS Alternate
Portfolio Assessment. I monitored the day-to-day operations of
the full-day sub-separate classroom including students with
moderate intellectual, emotional and physical disabilities. I am
knowledgeable in remedial phonics instruction, ABA and FBA. I
created, implemented, and tracked alternate behavior plans. I
wrote and managed IEPs and led IEP meetings. I led daily
homeroom activities in the 5th grade general education
classroom, working in partnership with the 5th grade team to
fully include students with IEPs in elective courses. For 12
students, I served as academic advisor. In the winter, I led an
ice-skating enrichment. I also planned and led a 5th grade
remedial reading group with a focus on comprehension.
