Sentence With Linking Verb

The linking verb is a special kind of verb that links the subject of a sentence with a
word that describe the subject. This descriptive word is called a complement and is always a
noun, pronoun, or adjective. The complement refers back to the subject and tell us something
about it.
Linking verb do not express action. Instead, they connect the subject of the verb to
additional information about the subject.
Example :

can do. (Is) connects the subject, (Keila), to additional information about her
(Keila), that she will soon have a huge credit card bill to pay.

(fells) connect the subject, (Irene), to her state being, sleepiness.


Form of verb be[am, is, are, was, were, has been, are being, might have been,etc], become,
and seem. These true linking verbs are always linking verb. Other linking verb: appear, feel,
grow, look, prove, remain, smell, taste and turn. Sometimes these verb are linking verb,
sometimes they are action verb.
How do you tell when they are action verb or linking verb?
If you can substitute am, is , or are and the sentence still sound logical, its a lingking verb.
My new stereo sounds wonderful [ my new stereo is wonderful ] = Linking Verb
If, after the substitution, the sentence doesnt make sense, its an action verb.
The little girl tasted the hot soup [ The little girl is the hot soup ] = Action Verb
