Does Alcohol Abuse in a Family Influence Attitudes Towards
Education on the College-Aged Child?
Samuel D. Bates Research Chair: Dr. Amy Reckdenwald 11 April 2014 Abstract Several researchers have examined how drinking can impact a students grade point average (GPA). This will be covered in depth in the literature review section. In the American culture, college is associated with alcohol and other experimentation. High school and college students drink and party. Social learning theory says that it is a learned behavior. People may either drink, or not drink based on the positive and negative sanctions they witnessed their older siblings and parents receive. This research will examine if the sanctions the child witnesses can impact their academic performance once they enter college. This is a quantitative study using a convenience sample of college students at a university. The full paper may be read by clicking the link below: http://www.scribd.com/doc/289226566/Senior-Thesis
