THMT Needs More

Physicians!!!

THMT eventually hopes to send volunteers to Haiti

on a monthly basis. However, in order to achieve
this, licensed physicians must be recruited to lead
trips throughout the year. Once a physician has committed to lead a team we will recruit and fill the
team with volunteers.
Lead doctors are team leaders and are required to
oversee all patient care including pharmacy and
laboratory administration and ensure that every
patient is properly assisted. Additionally, lead physicians have the flexibility of choosing the travel dates
for the mission and are accompanied by an experienced THMT administrator.

ABOUT US
The Tallahassee-Haiti Medical Team (THMT)
provides medical care and other services to the
people of Campeche-Dumay, a small community
located in the mountains east of Port-au-Prince,
Haiti.

CAMPECHE - DUMAY, HAITI

VOLUNTEERS

Campeche-Dumay is a semi-rural community

that is home to more than five thousand people

The Tallahassee-Haiti Medical Team annually

organizes four to six medical missions to Campeche-Dumay, Haiti. Medical teams consist of
medical professionals, medical and nursing students, pharmacists, EMT's, and lay people from
throughout the United States. One hundred to
one hundred-fifty patients are seen each day at a
modest clinic building that houses five examination rooms, a pharmacy, and a laboratory. Mission trips generally span over a week, five days
of which are dedicated to clinic work with other
activities scheduled on the weekend.

Founded by Dr. T. Woodrow Smith shortly after the devastating earthquake in 2010, THMT
organizes teams of volunteer doctors, nurses,
EMTs, students, and lay persons to conduct
week-long medical missions at a small clinic in
Campeche-Dumay. Medical team members
also help out in the local school and orphanages
and teach adult medical education classes. In
the summer of 2013, team volunteers assisted
the Rotary Club in setting up a water purification project in the village.
Ultimately, THMT's goal is to establish the
Campeche-Dumay Primary Care Center that
will serve both as a permanent healthcare provider for the community and as a training facility for future Haitian medical professionals.

Since 2010, THMT has officially partnered with

the Bethel Foundation, a prominent Haitian
Christian organization, to serve the communitys
medical needs. The Bethel Foundation constructed the small medical clinic building in
1990 and also operates a church and school in
the village.
Most villagers in Campeche-Dumay live in debilitating poverty, but through assistance programs started by the Bethel Foundation,
medical clinics offered by the Tallahassee-Haiti
Medical Team, and a water purification project
funded by the Rotary Club, the welfare of the
entire community is improving.
