MUSG Moves Forward With Bill to Improve Recreational Facilities

MILWAUKEE – Feb. 26, 2010 – Marquette University Student Government passed the “Reserve
Fund Bill #1: Centering on Recreation” at the senate meeting on February 25.

In a unanimous vote, the senate passed the bill to allocate $42,500 from the MUSG reserve fund for the
purpose of commissioning a recreational facilities program statement. The statement is the initial step
to alleviating concerns put forth by the 2006 and 2009 legislation, along with previously expressed
student concerns with the quality of the current recreation facilities.

The estimated cost of $42,500 for the recreational facilities program statement will be paid to an
outside consulting firm with expertise in university recreation centers. However, the bill requires a
signature from the vice president of student affairs before contacting a consulting firm. MUSG hopes
that this statement will be completed by the first senate meeting of fall 2010.

“We are not professionals and cannot give exact answers, however the results obtained from this
statement will help us plan for the future,” said President Henry Thomas. “The results will help
decipher if we need to fix the current recreation facilities or create a whole new recreation center all
together.”

Additional student organization funding for period 6 non-club sports allocation was also passed by the
senate Thursday night.
