FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MUSG Diversity Commission Hosts Screening and Director Talkback of “Vincent Who?”

MILWAUKEE – Feb. 23, 2010 – Marquette University Student Government’s Diversity Commission is pleased
to host a screening of the film “Vincent Who?” on March 2 at 7 p.m. in Cudahy 001. The documentary will be
followed by a talkback session with the award-winning director, writer and producer, Curtis Chin.

The film tells the story of Vincent Chin, who in 1982 was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers. After
the men only received plea bargains, the Asian American community rallied for the first time against this
injustice. Chin’s murder occurred at the height of anti-Japanese sentiments in the United States. This
documentary was inspired after Asian Pacific Americans for Progress held a series of town hall meetings on the
25th anniversary of the case.

“This program will include the experience to not only witness the history of the "Vincent Who?" event through
film, but to also directly engage the director, Curtis Chin,” said Diversity Commissioner Desiree Valentine. “I'm
hoping this event is an educational experience for the Marquette student body and I look forward to an
intriguing discussion to follow.”

The film’s director, Curtis Chin, is a community activist who co-founded the Asian American Writers
Workshop and Asian Pacific Americans for Progress. One of his biggest accomplishments was when he served
on President Barack Obama’s Asian American Leadership Council in 2008. He also has been an LGBT activist
serving as the chair of the Gay Asian Pacific Islander Men of New York.
