Technology Program Administrator Reflection

For the Technology Program Administrator project, I evaluated H.E. McCracken Middle Schools
Media Center. Out of all the Practicum projects, this one acquired the longest time to gather background
information and complete final product. It is safe to say that I spent a full month gathering the
information. I spend a whole week in the library concentrating on this assignment. In preparation of the
evaluation, I spent time conducting discussions with staff members that are involved with the Media
Center. After all information was gathered, I spent several hours researching and evaluating the program.
This project allowed me to grow in my ability to properly evaluate a program. I did struggle with
determining the programs methods of evaluation. I feel as if I was able to successfully design and
implement a program evaluation to assess effectiveness of the Media Center. In the future, I will use this
document as an outline for program evaluation.
While completing the interviews, there were several things that I found to be very interesting. I
discovered that the Media Center is expanding. Ms. Exley, the Media Specialist, is working on several
different projects that will develop the centers technology resources. Also, the center has been approved
to complete a new entrance mural. The idea is to allow students and teachers to complete this art project.
The Media Center provides a large variety of resources. While conducting my interview with Ms. Exley, I
learned that the Media Center has over 10,000 books. Ms. Exley stated that she spends much time
weeding through these books to determine what is up-to-date and appropriate. Also, she stated that the
Media Center has over 360 books for classroom sets. Teachers are able to check out these books for their
classes. Ms. Exley said that many teachers do not use these resources. Technology is a huge part of the
Media Centers resources. The Media Centers staff spends the majority of their time working with these
resources. These activities consist of teaching staff members and students how to use online resources.
Also, the Media Center is responsible for student tablet issues.
After collecting data, I determined that the Media Center is not working efficiently towards full
expectations in areas of goals, technology, and personnel support. Methods of collecting data and
evaluations include were interviews, discussions, research and observations. A rubric for observation was
used during observations. The three recommendations of improvement that I suggested were as followed:

The school needs to add a Media Center Advisory Committee.

The school needs to hire a full-time Technology Technician.

The Technology goals need to be added to the Media Centers Policy and Procedures.
