Science Reflection
After reading from the science framework, I would need to have a clear understanding of
Crosscutting concepts in how the framework focuses not only on disciplinary content but also the
ideas and practices that cut across the science disciplines. Also, I need to know the 7 crosscutting
concepts, which provide students with connections, and intellectual tools that are related to
different areas of disciplinary content and can enhance their application of practices and their
understanding of core ideas.
My previous classes that have prepared me for both science and field/classroom are:
SMT 416, BIO 102 and BIO 103Lab, and Earth Science 100. All of theses classes have talked
about the study of earth, volcanoes, the body, fossils, minerals etc. A lot of group
assignments/projects helped us gain more knowledge of strategies in how to help our future
students how to be taught and understand best.
The areas of science that I feel well prepared in are Biology and Earth Science. I think the
standards that would be better for me when it comes to science is Kinder through third or fourth
grade. However, the areas I feel less prepared in are the standards for the upper grades such as
fifth or sixth grade. I know I will need a lot of practice with these standards.
The artifacts I plan to use to share in my portfolio would be from my SMT 416 and BIO
102 class. I plan on sharing a worksheet about atmosphere from my SMT 416 class. For BIO 102
I plan on sharing a document which talks about fats and cholesterol. Furthermore, the work
samples demonstrate my learning in science in the content Ive learned about the earths
atmosphere and how to keep our body healthy. The work samples connect to my personal

experience in teaching and learning of science by preparing me for my future classroom in how
to teach science the easiest way possible and make it fun and productive for the students to enjoy
the world of science.
