NURS 2021H Clinical Course Final Evaluation

Progress
Evidence/Indicators

Course Objective
1. Demonstrate competency in navigating the
complexities of family nursing.

2. Integrate knowledge from previous courses

to support diverse populations.

3. Critically appraise relational inquiry

Understanding where the patients

go for their support systems
Knowing their family life you can
develop the knowledge to know
whether or not their family is
good to support
Engaging with conversion about
with the patient about their
family instead of just reading
their charts
Patient told me how they hope
their sister will be able to let her
move in once she gets
discharged
From nursing 2001 I learned to
practice using a relational
approach
Instead of worrying so much on
the biomedical aspect I can focus
more on getting to know the
patient and learning why they are
here rather than just giving them
the medications
NURS 2021 lab we had
simulations on mental health
problems like schizophrenia and
addictions. Having real actors act
out these situations will allow me
to feel more comfortable in the
clinical setting
By participating in labs every

processes and skills to develop meaningful

relationships with health care providers and
family members.

4. Collaboratively formulate a plan of care

based on knowledge of family nursing,
related theories and scholarly literature.

week I learn skills that I can put

into my clinical practice
Develop relationship with health
care provider by communicating
with the charge nurse so they can
know how your patient is doing
so a plan can be implemented
and made.
When I was the team leader I had
to communicate to the charge
nurse any abnormal findings. This
allowed me to develop a
professional relationship with the
other health care providers, so
the overall well being of the
patient can be done when all
health care professionals work
together
Being in the mental health unit
the many theories and scholarly
literature emphasizes the
importance of getting the
patients to participate in
activities like crafts, group
therapy, or group walks
As the nurse it is important to
encourage the patient to go
participate in activities
When developing a plan of care
for a patient I had to consider all
of their different aspects that
needed to be considered
For example a patient needed to
do certain exercises to help their
shoulder so I guided them
through it and helped them do
they in order to implement their

5. Develop, implement and evaluate the

effectiveness of health-promoting,
evidence-based practice, reflecting principles
of family nursing as relational
practise.

6. Demonstrate increasing competence and

confidence in the application of
psychomotor skills in practice settings.

7. Demonstrate accountability and

professionalism that is consistent with a
nurse
entering a self-regulating profession.

care plan
By writing two LEARN reflections I
can reflect on what stood pout to
me and explain my thoughts
about it
Promoting the patients to
maintain hygiene and to want to
get up and dressed in the
morning
I have to now successfully
completed 2 LEARNs so I can
reflect on my practice by
continuously reflecting by writing
down significant events that
occur within my clinical
placement
By stepping outside of my box I
become more willing to try new
things and develop the skills that
I learned in lab in the clinical
setting
By trying new experiences in
clinical helps me become more
confident in my practice
I have continued to step outside
of my comfort zone and have
used the skills that I learned in
lab and feel confident enough
now to use those skills in a
clinical setting
When charting patients vital
signs I as the nurse have to
properly chart and take vital
signs and by charting those down
I have to accept responsibility
that the information that I wrote
down is true and reliable.

8. Select appropriate community support

services for families needing referral to
enhance coping with diverse transitional
experiences.

Same for when I write progress

notes I accept the accountability
that the information is accurate
I continued to document and
chart vital signs
I also had the chance to write
nursing progress notes that I
have the accountability. I also
showed up to every placement on
time and had everything
prepared
Learning about the different
support groups and agencies that
are offered to the patients helps
me as a nurse knowing what I can
offer the patient or suggest to
them
Knowing where they go after
release, whether it is home or
Ontario Shores, group home. It is
important to know so the
necessary actions to take to help
the patients
When I was in the crisis unit I got
to experience the different
processes of being emitted to
going to the inpatient unit and
how they transition through each.

Student Areas of Strength

1. I have learned to come more out of my comfort zone now and I am willing to try new things
during placement.

2. I have developed better communication strengths with my patients as well as with the other
health care professionals.
3. I have learned how to take a leadership role during clinical which is something that I have had
difficulties doing in the pass, but now I am not afraid to take a leadership role.
Student Areas for Future Development
1. Now that I have practiced giving injections in lab I feel more confident and comfortable in
moving forward and eventually doing them in clinical placement
2. Even though I do feel like I am stepping out of my comfort zone it is still an ongoing process for
me that will continue to be an area that I need to develop throughout all my clinical
placements
3. I think in the future I should aim towards being able to conduct an assessment, like I witnessed
on the crisis unit, on my own, once I feel that I developed my communication skills in the best
way possible
