In the United States, the rise in ethnic diversity due to immigration in recent decades has
greatly increased. Looking back in the beginning of America that helped it become known to be
the Great Power, it was with the help of immigrants such as Irish, Chinese, Japanese, Hispanics,
and much more. They poured their sweats into the making of railways, factories, and kept
producing of military equipments during the wars while the American men fought. They helped
stabilized and met the demands, though today you do not hear a single thing about any other
ethnicity other than hispanics. United States are not creating immigration policies that could
benefit the country instead they are turning the immigrants away by not giving them the chance
to a better life.
The government turned their backs to the cries of need and media helped set racial
discrimination towards people that have the description of an hispanic immigrant. Media and
policymakers target hispanic immigrants, thinking of ways to prevent them from coming over by
increasing more portaling in the border. That influences the view of hispanic immigrant as
unwanted to the citizens with the help of the media. With the negative outlets from the
government and media have been instrumental in the creation of anti-immigrant accounts so then
citizens could view immigrants as dangerous people seeking into United States and that they are
a threat to the citizens. As discussed by David Becerra a professor from Arizona State University
published a book called, The Impact of Anti-Immigration Policies and Perceived Discrimination

in the United States on Migration Intentions among Mexican Adolescents, he reveals that
people who choose to migrate take the risk in order to provide for their families back at home
and that there is a high level of discrimination towards Mexicans as concluded by his studies.
Becerra states, Recent political activities related to Mexican immigration to the USA, including
the rise of the Minutemen border vigilante group, the crackdown against undocumented
immigrants and the negative depiction of Mexican immigrants in the US media, may lead to an
increase in the perception of discrimination against Mexican immigrants in the USA. By
exacting immigrants from the America, United States is portraying immigrants as pests that have
no right to be here, but they left behind their homes and entered an unknown territory in order to
find a better life. For years there been shocking hostile articles published like in Los Angeles
Times that latinos are being perceived as dependent, poor, unable or unwilling to assimilate, and
criminals. Citizens only hear negatives about immigrants, but they do not hear that immigrants
pay sales taxes when they make purchases and property taxes for the housing they rent or own.
Negative portrayals of immigrants in the press are wrong to stereotype them as people who are
leeching off the country. In the media they do not broadcast about the cruel actions that the
minutemen has taken it into their own power to hunt and gun down immigrants illegally because
they simply felt it was their obligation as an American citizen. America has always been
visualized as the land of the free and full of opportunities which is why it will always attract
people to migrate no matter what, it is best to establish an immigration policy than wasting
millions trying to fight it off.
Hispanics or Latinos often experience ethnic discrimination because of how the media
and policymakers portrays them. Thomas F. Brezenski, who has a Ph. D and is an Associate
professor of Political Science and LSAC Prelaw Advisor published a book called Journal of

multiple unreported incidences where U.S. citizens were asked for verification based purely on
their skin tone or conversing in Spanish in public places.
