-Beware, my Lord, of the monster that jealousy does become over its victim.
-Iago is warning Othello to not let his emotions come over him. If he allows
jealousy to ensnare him, then he will become consumed by it and nothing else.
-This quote is important in relation to the play because jealousy is one of the
major themes highlighted throughout the play. It is taught in different ways and
perspectives, yet either way, jealousy brings chaos to the ones loved around you.
-This quote is taking places when Iago and Othello are discussing the possibility
of Desdemona cheating on Othello with Cassio, warning him that he shouldnt let this
woman get the best of him.

"This fellow's of exceeding honesty,


And knows all qualities, with a learned spirit
Of human dealings." (25860) -Othello
- This man is extremely honest, he knows all qualities, and is equipped in the
handling of the human spirit and mind.
-Othello is saying Iago is an extremely honest man who recognizes the qualities
in all people and is familiar with humans and knows how precious the soul is. This is
awfully ironic considered Iago is the villain and has essentially damned himself and his
soul.
-This quote is important in relation to the play because, as readers, we see that
the enemy of the hero is not known to the hero. He is trusted by the hero. This is one of
the life lessons that can be learned from this play. You cannot always trust the people
that have been around the longest. They dont always remain loyal and honest.
-This quote takes place when Othello is praising Iago for his honesty and
promotes him to lieutenant.

"This honest creature doubtless


Sees and knows more, much more, than he unfolds." (242-3) -Othello
-This honest man has more wisdom and experience than meets the eye.
-Othello is noticing that Honest Iago may not be so honest now, but is an
extremely craft individual who is using his experience and manipulative nature to pull
one over on the rest of the cast. He is recognizing that he is sharp and knows how to
play the game well.
-This is important in relation to the play because once Othello begins having nes
suspicions, he is thrown into even more emotional turmoil, throwing his judgment even
more of the spectrum and creating even more turmoil in the end.
-This quote takes place when Othello is once again giving praise to Iago after he
has been betrayed by Cassio.

"Haply, for I am black


And have not those soft parts of conversation
That chamberers have, or for I am declined
Into the vale of years yet that's not much
She's gone." (263-7) -Othello
-I am the reason she is gone, now I must loathe her.
-Othello is now aware that Desdemona was innocent the whole time and he is
now the villain in the relationship. He also realizes that he won't be able to live with
himself knowing that he has killed his love without reason.
-This quote is important in relation to the play because it is Othellos downfall. He
truly is defeated and has to come to terms with the fact that he was manipulated into
killing his true love by who he trusted as his best friend. Othellos life essentially falls
apart at this point.
-This quote takes place after Othello has murdered his wife and he is now
realizing all the wrong he has done.

"Excellent wretch! Perdition catch my soul


But I do love thee! And when I love thee not,
Chaos is come again." (90-92) -Othello
-Amazing woman! If I do not love thee, I will surely go to hell. And when I dont
love thee, the world will surely fall apart.
-Othello is professing love for his wife and it is actually quite romantic the way he
does it. He is saying that if he does not love Desdemona, he shall be damned, and if he
does not love her, then surely, the world will just fall apart.

-This quote is very important in relation to the play because as we progress


through Iagos manipulations, Othello questions whether or not he really loves his wife
and his world does begin to shake quite a bit. His actions are very cool and intense as
well, slapping his wife, killing her, stabbing Iago. At the end however, he pays for his
penance, he does love her, but is still damned for having stopped.
-This quote takes place early in the play after Othello and Desdemona have just
gotten married. He being very loving towards his wife and trusts her wholeheartedly.
