What is GAFE?
Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a
core suite of productivity applications
that Google offers to schools and
educational institutions for free.
These communication and
collaboration apps include Gmail,
Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sites, and a
GAFE account unlocks access to dozens
of other collaborative tools supported
by Google.

Why use GAFE?

When signed into a GAFE account, you see
no advertisements on Google searches.
More than 10 million students and teachers
currently use Google Apps to improve
learning.
Google Chrome is the recommended
browser for Google Apps for Education;
however, it will work with Mozilla and
Internet Explorer. For your Apple devices,
there is a Chrome app.

Use advanced search.
When searching Google Images,

use Search Tools.
Google Sites
Easy to use and has a student friendly interface.
You can set up your website within minutes.
It provides highly customizable themes that you can easily
apply to your site.
Integrated with other Google apps like Calendar.
Great collaborative features including multiple editors and
commenting.
Easy to insert images, videos, and other multimedia materials.
Unlimited cloud storage capacity for you to upload documents,

Google Sites Examples

Create a blog in your Google Site to share announcements with students.
Embed your Google Calendar in your Google Site to share with students.
Encourage students to use Google Sites to create digital portfolios
displaying their best work.
Use it in group projects by assigning students to create their own pages
and share them with each other.
Encourage peer review and peer editing by allowing students to post
comments and feedback on each others pages.
Embed videos, audio, presentations, and images that students can use
when working on their projects and assignments.

Go into your WCSD Gmail.

Choose Settings.
Choose Filters.
Choose Create a new filter.
In the To: field, enter your Gmail email
address followed by a "+" and the word
you want to use in the web address you
want to use for the student(i.e.
student1, student2, etc.).
Choose Create filter with the search.
Choose Skip the inbox (Archive it).
Choose Apply the label.
Choose Create new label. Give you label
a name like Student Email.
Choose Create new label.
Anything your students needs an email
address for, they can use this for. Their
emails will automatically come to the
folder.
To continue adding students, follow steps
1-8.

Create calendars for different

classes, personal ones, make
them different colors, hide or
display, share, etc.
Meeting dates are on the
calendar, and calendars can be
posted to website.
Create tasks for yourself or
others.
Set up event notifications, so you
do not miss events.
Use Google Calendar Labs to
customize and enhance your inbox
and calendar.
Click on a date in an email to add
it to your Calendar.

View Google Drive in different ways Grid & List (If you are in list view
you can sort your files by Name, Last Modified, Owner, & File Size.)
See Incoming, Recent, Starred, & Trash

IncomingYou can choose whether or not to add it to your Google Drive.
You can create folders, and drag and drop files to reorganize.
How To Use Google Drive

When you click on a particular file, you get some additional options at the top.

Right-click on files and folders for more options.
Color code
folders.
Search for files
using Search
Options.
Sharing files is
easy.
Sharing Files In Google Drive
Example: Sharing Videos

Create a folder in Google Drive called Videos.

Once the folder has been created, find it in your Google Drive
and right-click on it. Choose Share. Choose Advanced.

In the Who has access section, change from Private to OnAnyone with the link, and choose Save. Choose Done.

Find a video on YouTube you want to

share with your students. Right-click on
the web address to copy the link.
Go to Savefrom.net: http://en.
savefrom.net, paste the link in the
Enter URL box, and choose
Download.
Right-click on MP4 360p or MP 720p
file, and choose Save Link As.
Save the file to your desktop (or
somewhere you will remember).
Open Google Drive, and click on the
Videos folder you created.
Go to the New button, and Choose
File upload from drop-down menu.

When prompted, find where you saved

your file, choose that file, and click
Open. The video will start uploading to
your Google Drive.
Once you see the video in the folder,
wait for it to finish uploading (1 minute
for smaller videos, 3-5 minutes for
larger videos).
To share video, right-click on video,
and choose Share. In the next
window, choose Copy Link, and then
tap Done.
Take the link and copy it into Schoology
or your website.

Sign in to your Schoology account:

https://wcsd.schoology.com
In the top menu, click Resources
and select Apps.
When prompted, click Install
Apps in the My Resource Apps
list.
Select the option to install Google
Drive, and click Install.
All of your Google Drive content
will automatically populate your
Google Drive Resource App.

Access, create, and edit your spreadsheets wherever you gofrom your

Real-time collaboration for editing, commenting, and chatting with other
educators or students.
All your changes are automatically saved as you type. You can even use
revision history to see old versions of the same spreadsheet, sorted by date
and who made thechanges.
Information collected from a Google Form can be captured in a Sheet for
analyzing, tracking, and graphing large amounts of data. With Google Sheets
mobile apps and offline editing, you can access and edit spreadsheets in
class, at home, or on the road.
