Montags identity crisis begins

This is the first hint that Montag

is dealing with inner doubts
doubts that he had managed to
hide even from himself.

"You're one of the few who during his conversations with

why I think it's so strange

conflict between his desire to be
a dutiful member of society and
his inner belief that something is

you, somehow. (Page 27)

"I'm still crazy. The rain

feels good. I love to walk in
it.

"I don't think I'd like that,"

he said.

"You might if you tried."

"I never have."

She licked her lips. "Rain even

tastes good." (Page 25)

Clarrise is the antithesis of Beaty.

She represents nature whereas
he represents technology.
Clarisse is enjoying the simple
pleasures of life, that Beatty isn't
even aware of.

This goes back to my claim that

Clarisse is simply just making the
most of her life. She always
makes the best out of situations.
Beatty on the other side is just
immensely focused on his job
and abiding by the communitys
rules that he never stopped to
enjoy life.

"Bet I know something else

you don't. There's dew on
the grass in the morning."

Clarisse arouses Montags

rebellion not by telling him
what to think, but by
encouraging him to think.

The fact that everything about

Clarisse is strange to Montag
reveals a lot about normality in
this society. People are rarely out
or even awake at night, they
rarely walk anywhere or notice
everyday aspects of the natural
world, and no one seems to have
deep meaningful conversations.

This quote shoes how Clarise is

trying to help montage question
things and guide him in the
direction of being more open
minded instead of having such a
narrow mind that processes
things in societys terms. She
sort of forced him to face us own
individuality

This quote supports my main

claim that clarisse opened up
montags mind to new ideas. This
quote resembles the start of the
movement that is questioning
things and becoming more open
to new ideas

He suddenly couldn't
remember if he had known
this or not, and it made him
quite irritable.

"And if you look"she

nodded at the sky"there's
a man in the moon."

He hadn't looked for a long time.

This quote means that unlike the

rest of the people in the town,
clarisse is not afraid of the fire
fighters and considers them to be
normal citizens just like her. They
have no impact on her.

This quote supports my main

claim that clarrise shouldn't be
silenced because it just proves
how she doesn't go with what
people are saying, she has her
own mind to think, she has a
right to voice her opinion as it is
beneficial to others.

This quote shows the simplicity of

life, and how clarrise is nothing like
the other people in the community.
She takes notice of the smallest of
things and creates meaning out of it.

clarrise was the type of individual

who instead of asking how asks
why. she wanted to figure out
why the government chose to
ban books and only valued
technology, she didnt accept
soceitys values, rather she
valued nature, looking at the
world for how it truly was.

Clarisse is different, compared to

everyone else in her society. She is
open minded and takes the time to
appreciate the smallest things in life.
Her open-mindedness can be
confusing to some people which is
why she doesn't have a lot of friends.
Not a lot of people get her and they
think she is weird.

This shows how society is so

closed minded and how isolated
clarisse is from her society. She
is different from all of the age
groups in her society not just the
teenagers. Being social isn't just
about talking to people and
having a lot of friends, its also
about having a common ground
with people, and clarisse lacks

not afraid of you

people are.
Afraid of firemen
I mean. But
you're just a
man after all.

Im very social, indeed. It
all depends on what you
mean by social, doesn't
it? Social to me means
talking to you about
things like this. (Ray
