Sport Pedagogy Lesson Plan Template (Elementary and Middle School)

School: Cleveland Elementary

Grade Level: 4th and 5th grade

Lesson Focus: Cumulative Experience: Backhand


Frisbee Toss. The activity will take place on the
blacktop.

# of students: 20 students

Equipment and Facilities: 10 Frisbees, 20 poly spots,


4 jerseys (2 of same color)

Safety Considerations: The teacher will conduct the


activity in a quality- learning environment. All
equipment used will be age appropriate and placed
in a safe manner to reduce the risk of any injuries.
Each student will be spaced out accordingly to help
prevent any conflict or injuries. The teacher will
verbally review the rules and expectations before the
start of the activity. Before the start of class, the
teacher will have knowledge of any health related
issues the students may have, which will be provided
by the school. All equipment will be placed on the
ground/ floor while the teacher is providing
instructions.

Behavioral Contingencies: Students will be expected


to actively participate during the lesson. If students
are misbehaving, a 2- strike rule will be
implemented. The first strike being that the student
will be pulled to the side and verbally warned about
the misbehavior and sit out for that activity. The
final warning, students will be pulled from all
activities. When the teacher is talking, the students
will place all equipment on the ground and their
hands on their head. Students will be removed from
activity if the equipment is used inappropriately.
Teaching Strategy: I will start the lesson using the
command style teaching strategy. The instruction will
be provided by using an interactive approach and
verbal cues to assist the students in understanding
the techniques that will be used during the activities.

Previously Learned Skills: Students should be able to


balance themselves in an upright position. Students
should have some sense of direction and
understanding of basic motor skills. Students will
need to have worked on team building skills,
following directions, and communication.

Academic Language: The academic language used


will be (1 thumb on top, 1 index finger around the
side, and 3 fingers curled underneath). Shoulder to
Target, Curl, Step, and Wipe the Table.

Psychomotor (P): SWBAT execute the forehand toss directly to their partner 7 out of 10 times
and not allow the Frisbee to drop on the ground

Objectives:

Cognitive (C): SWBAT recite the COTS with 90% accuracy.


H-R Fitness (H): SWBAT engage in MVPA at least 60% of the time.

Instant Activity:
Virus Tag
This game is called Virus tag.
One student is the virus and one
student is the medic. Everyone
else needs to avoid the virus. If
tagged by the virus, go down on
one knee and call for the medic
to save you.
The object of the game is to
avoid getting tagged. If the virus
tags most students, we will pick
a new medic and virus.
