Philosophy Statement for Dance Education in the Elementary School
I believe that a quality education for grades K-5 should consist of dedication from both
teachers and students. Teachers should be able to help their students as much as they can in order
for them to improve in any subject they are having trouble with. In order for students to improve
in all subject areas, they should put in their effort. Whether those subjects are Math, English,
Science, History, or even P.E., students should work hard. Having dance education in Elementary
Schools is actually a great idea because not only are they exercising but they are also learning
how to work independently or with a partner or a team. Through dance education they are also
learning Math, English, and science skills. It is a really fun way for students to learn and have
fun at the same time.
The Visual and Performing Arts Framework, explains how connections, relationships, and
applications are being involved when students are learning about arts discipline. They have the
opportunity to develop competencies and create skills in problem solving. Students also have the
ability to connect with one another by communicating. They also learn time management and
careers that relate to arts discipline. Dance Education means to educate physically, socially,
emotionally, and intellectually. I think it is very important for students to apply all four of these
into their learning because they get to experience dance education not just the word dance by
itself. The Fundamental Motor Skills notes teach students how to walk, run, leap, hop, jump,
gallop, slide, and skip. Dance Education is such a great way to connect with the students, teach
them new skills, teach them how important teamwork really is, and have fun.
Rhythm and dance activities help children to develop their skills. It also helps them to be

more free and getting out of their comfort zone. When dance activities involve either math,
English, social studies, or science, it helps them to learn new things and the academic subjects
become more fun because of the dance activities they were doing. Dance education is great to
have at the Elementary Schools. Children love it.
