AIBIRISIM renee viola SCALES AND ARPEGGIOS BOOK I GRADES 1-5 be ae or 4 VIOLA SCALES AND ARPEGGIOS: GRADES 1-5 ~~ Edited and fingered by MARGUERITE WILKINSON The examination requirements for scales and arpeggios given in this publication are applicable from 1989 onwards; but reference must always be made to the current syllabus, in case any changes have been made to the requirements, Separate bowing (one note to a bow) should be played simple détache. Slurred bowing should be played legato, with the whole bow wherever possible, A firm, sonorous tone should be used. Scales and arpeggios should be played at a pace that is consistent with accuracy and distinctness, and without undue accentuation, The candidate should aim for a tempo that is compatible with a clean ‘and firm tone, vital rhythm, controlled bowing and good intonation. The fingering given in this publication is considered to be practical but itis not compulsory. Where two fingerings are indicated, that above the notes is usually for starting in the first position, with changes of position for the higher notes: that below the notes is, usually for starting in a position other than the first and remaining in that position throughout the scale. The choice of fingering should be governed by the size of the instrument and the shape of the hand, so that accurate intonation can be achieved without strain, When in the first position, either an open string or the fourth finger may be used © 1988 by The Associated Boatd of the Royal Schools of Music THE ASSOCIATED BOARD OF THE ROYAL SCHOOLS OF MUSIC SCALES: | octave (Grades 1-3) (a) separate bows, rhythm as shown; (b) slurred as shown, two quavers to a bow D major See one? og yn F major Sommior EB red "eal A maior pee at os — SEER Es AB 2016 SCALES: | octave (Grades 2 & 3) (a) separate bows. rhythm as shown: (b) slurred as shown. two quavers to a bow — = Tuas see G minor melodic G minor harmonic D minor melodic oe R adil sinen 1 aeoae BEE or Grade 3 : fmtnic ARE AB 2016 SCALE! 2 octaves (Grades 1-5) (2) separate bows, rhythm as shown: (b) slurred as shown, 1wo quavers to a bow (Gi des 1-3).
