1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
Before going into the field of accounting, the fantasies for me were that I would be working with money
and accounts all day, however since I have started working at my current job, I do much more than just
count money, I reconcile bank accounts, update ledgers, post checks from clients, and most of all, almost
all the work I do is off of excel.

2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?

My current education level is Junior level student at the University of Houston obtain a BBA in
Accounting and Finance. As far as CE is required, there is not any at the moment for Bachelor level
accountants, but for CPAs they must take a certain amount of CE hours each year.

3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
The typical day to day activities in accounting at my job is checking to see if any expenses have been
charged to accounts and what amounts have been paid towards balances owed. Then looking for ways to
create methods to update accounts at ease with the use of excel.

4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?
(job security)
I am secure in my current position until I am completing my current semester and then extensions or
permanent positions may be offered. My future in the field of accounting is set to where I graduate and
there will be a job waiting for me.

5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?
(salary)
The typical salary for BBA accountants can range from 50,000-75,000 a year depending on work
experience and location of the job.

6. What potential for growth is there in your field?


(growth potential)
I tell others that the growth in the field accounting is similar to medicine. In the field of medicine,
treatments and experiments are always changing; it is the same with accounting because accountants are
the doctors of the financial world. There may be new software but an accountant will always be needed
to work the software.

7. In what ways does the company you work for help you for the future?
The company I currently work for helps me for my future by giving me experience in different areas
such as Tax, Audit, and General ACCT.

8. Can you describe some of the people you work with?


This can make the difference of how you feel in working in the field of accounting. Where I work I sit in
a big office with 5 other people working accounting. We work to get the job done, but also have fun in
the process of doing it.

9. If any, how have the working conditions change in recent years?


The working conditions have not changed for me in any manner at the moment.

10. Do you ever have to work overtime, if so do you get paid more for overtime work?
Since, I am an intern with RMWBH, I can work about 20 hours a week but as mentioned above, the
people I work with are flexible as to where I can work fewer or more hours every week as needed. On
average I work about 19.5 hours each week and get paid in the 15-20/hr range. I dont get paid extra for
working more than 20 hours since I am only a part time employee.
