B. Applying for a job
Find out the difference between Freelance, permanent and
casual work within your chosen sector (film industry)

Isla Dhillon

For example in the film industry, the different between

freelance, permanent and casual are that, permeant work
would be people within the film industry such as a director,
camera operator and actors who are permeant workers
meaning they work for the company its their full time job and
they receive holiday pay when not there and usual full time
work elements. Whereas casual work within the film industry
could be like a fill in actor who need to be in background
scenes- like an extra, they fill in work when needed every now
and again but they dont have a fixed job they just help out
when needed. Freelance within the film industry may be selfemployed people who do work themselves almost selfemployed or someone that could fill in for someone with short
notice to do so.
Permanent- permanet job work for the companyt, get holiday pay
Casual- when your needed for work you will be called in (not fixed)
Freelance- do it yourself- self employed- can help out with short
notice

In newspapers theres a page dedicated to jobs, companies put

I am now studying at The Henley College. I am in full time education studying
social studies level 3 extended Diploma which is equivalent to 3 A- levels. Next
year Im hopefully studying creative media level 3 at the Henley College,
depending on this years grades from all my assignments completed in my
current course. Ive chosen not to carry on the course Im currently studying as I
have lost interest in it but still am trying to achieve the highest possible grades
to help me get into next year. I am predicted DM (distinction, merit) as my
overall grade for social studies.
(2015-11-03)
I am now in my second year studying creative media at The Henley College due
to my results last year I was able to start a new course. I have done projects such
as making a video using different camera and editing techniques which I am
enjoying a lot as I consider myself quite creative.

Interests and achievements

I have many interests and hobbies such as socialising with friends and meeting
new people. I am responsible as I care for my pet- walking and feeding him. I
also enjoy sports such as netball and rounders as team work is something I am
good at. I have taken part in Young enterprise during a school day, held a cake
sale on school premises to raise money for charity and taken part in other charity
events. I have a high school attendance and have received many
accommodations throughout my time at school working hard during lessons.
Employment
2012- I have had retail experience as I worked in Upper Heyford Stores in oxford
during my summer break. This job included stock taking, replenishing sold stock,
stacking shelves, pricing items, cleaning and general shop floor assistance.
2012- 2013- I have cleaned flats and houses for my Dad as part of his letting
business. This included general cleaning procedures such as hovering, mopping,
dusting, cleaning surfaces and bathrooms.
2013- During the last week of year 10 at school before breaking up for summer
in July I did a week of work experience at All Saints C of E Junior School in

Isla Dhillon
Maidenhead. I worked from Monday-Friday 8:45am-3:30pm in a year 3 class. This
was a great experience as I marked and corrected tests and spellings and was
able to work with children as well as adults. I also had to help a group of girls
with friendship building and be on duty at break and lunch time.
2013 - I used to be a regular babysitter, caring for an eleven year old girl
Charlotte, I would pick her up from her school All Saints C of E junior School at
3:30pm, walk her to her house, help her out with her homework and often
prepare and cook meals for her until one of her parents return which was usually
around 7pm-9pm.
2014-2015 I started working in retail at Tk Maxx Taplow late July of 2014. I did
my till training and all other training at the Tk Maxx Reading store. So I have
experience in putting stock out, working on tills serving customers, shop floor
trained- pickups, sorting rails and trained for fitting rooms. I am used to working
under pressure due to having this job as when all the customers left and the
store closed we had 1 hour to tidy our assigned sections of the store/
departments which could be up to one whole floor. A lot of teamwork skills were
needed as I was constantly working and serving different people and would help
people behind the tills as this is where I was always working if they needed help
with anything e.g. refunds, paying half cash half card, coupons and packaging
items. I quit working in Tk Maxx early April as I wanted to go into something
different from retail.
I am still working once a week for an hour for my Dad cleaning a house and a flat
to help out with my Dads letting and renting business. I no longer babysit as the
child I babysat is old enough and doesnt need me anymore.
