problems through 12x12.
The learner will understand that there are many different strategies that they can use in
order to solve a multiplication problem.
Objective(s):
The learner will demonstrate their knowledge of number lines by generating their own
multiplication sentences and using number lines that they created in order to solve with
80% accuracy.
The learner will demonstrate their knowledge of multiplication by solving each problem
using a variety of multiplication strategies with 80% accuracy.
TEKS:
111.5.4E - Represent multiplication facts by using a variety of approaches such as
repeated addition, equal-sized groups, arrays, area models, equal jumps on a number line,

Instructional Procedures
Focusing Event:
-What are some different strategies that one could use in order to solve multiplication
problems?
-Today we are going to learn to use a number line to help us multiply.

-This strategy is similar to skip counting.

Teaching/ Learning Procedures:
-The teacher will do some examples of multiplying using a number line on the board.
-Students will copy the examples into their Math journals.
-The teacher will explain each workstation.
-Children will practice their multiplication strategies at each station.
-Students will switch between 6 stations.
Formative Check (ongoing or specific):
I will formatively assess these children through observation and questioning. I will also
look over students station papers and exit tickets in order to check for understanding.
Reteach (alternative used as needed):
If students need extra practice, I will go over extra examples on the white board. I will
add number lines to the daily math review. Throughout the lesson, I will be available to
work one on one or pull small groups with students who need extra practice with the
number lines. I will make myself available for students who are in need of extra
assistance before and after class time.
Closure:
Exit Ticket:
Make your own number line and solve for 6x6=?
Reflection: Which multiplication strategy do you like best? Why?
Assessment/Summative Evaluation:
Students will be assessed through an end of unit pencil paper assessment.
