For the purposes of this assignment, you can consider SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grants
as grants of money made by different US government agencies to start-ups at favorable terms. This is
similar to some of the Singapore government grants to encourage entrepreneurship. (While it is not
needed for this assignment, if you want more information, you can get it at www.sbir.gov).
1. What, in your opinion, would be venture capitalists reaction to Bobs strategy of forming two
companies? Why? Is there anything that Bob can do to alleviate the VCs concerns, if the VCs do
have any? [5]
2. Suppose that GM has offered to invest in Bobs company in return of a board seat. What are the
advantages and disadvantages of accepting their offer? What would be your advice to Bob?

3. What are deadlines for the individual assignment?
The S&P question will be handed out on September 30. The deadline for submitting the answer is 11
