STEM Project Data Analysis

Calculations
1. Explain how to find the following calculations:
a. Mean
add all data and divide by the number of trials

b. Mode
Most often occurring number ordering can help

c. Median
Middle number, order the numbers,if there are two middle numbers you have to find the
middle number of the two middle numbers

d. Range
lowest to highest

2. What did your results of your experiment tell you?

a. Science: What is the answer your experimental question?
my results told me that pepsi is the worst thing for your teeth. And that the water is the best for
your teeth.

b. Engineering: Did your invention meet the requirements you

wanted it to? Explain which ones it met and/or any it didnt meet.

3. Take a look at your data table in your STEM booklet. Does your data need any
calculations in order to best show patterns or trends?
No it does not need the calculations in order to show the patterns and trends.
4. Which calculations will you use? Ex) do you need to take an average of all 3
trials?
I will use none of the methods to figure out my project.

5. Set up a data table below to organize any calculations you need to do.

6. Do the calculations in the space below. Write out the math problems. Add a
sheet of folded paper if you run out of space.

7. What is your independent variable?

what type of drinks i used
8. What is your dependent variable?
the amount of each drink i use
9. Is your data qualitative or quantitative? How can you tell?
qualititave because my project is more observation than anything

10. What type of graph will you choose and why? Ex) bar graph because.
Note: Engineers, you will be graphing the results of your tests. Scientists, you will be graphing
the results of your experiment.
(refer to STEM booklet page 7 for science or page 11 for engineering and to your data
types foldable in your interactive notebook)
i will use a data collecting graph because its best for observations

11. What is the range of your y-value numbers?

i dont have a range
12. Write a descriptive title for your graph. This should clearly identify what your
graph is about and mention your variables.
Observations of egg rotting teeth weekly

13. Make a graph either through NCES kids (https://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/), Word

Excel or Google Sheets. Your graphs need to be computer-generated to go on your
display board. Please print them in color if possible. Be sure to save your graphs so
you dont have to start over if you lose your printouts.

14. On the bottom on page 8 in your STEM booklet (science) or page 12

(engineering), write a paragraph explanation of the results of your graph. What is your
graph trying to tell you? What did you discover in your results?
