Here we are approaching our

fourth month of school. Students have already made big
leaps when it comes to speaking and understanding
French. As a whole, the class
has improved greatly in terms
of expressing themselves in
French when they are in my
classroom.
I would like to remind you
that students should have
homework everyday since
they need to study their
spelling words and review the
notes that they have for Science and Social Studies. I
would appreciate if you could
check your childs agenda on
a regular basis and sign your
initials. I find this to be an easy
way to communicate and it
allows you to see the upcoming tests and assignments.
I also want to remind you that
you can access my homework
website for information on
assignments or up-coming
evaluations. You can find the
website by typing the following in the address bar :

F.I.L.A. (French)
We are almost finished discussing the environment as
well as what we are doing at
home and at school in order
to help save the environment.
Soon, we will be starting a
unit on Messages in which
students will be talking, reading and writing about the
different ways that we convey
messages to other people.
Through this unit, students
will be able to practice reading

strategies such as building on

what they already know, finding the most important details
and evaluating messages.

English Language Arts

In the upcoming term, students will continue to work on
reading, writing and speaking/
listening. We will be working
on 'the parts of speech' and
focus on the importance of
using contextual cues. Students will be writing a story
about Christmas - with the goal
of having it published either on
our menu, or on the
blogsite: kidblog.org.
The most important way to
achieve success in ELA is to
read. There is a school-wide
expectation that each student
will read for at least 15 minutes, five days per week, and
for each student to register it in
the personal log.

Math
Students are currently working on the Shapes and Space
component of the curriculum.
They are working on drawing
shapes and plotting points in a
Cartesian plan. In the next
month, we will work with integers (positive and negative
numbers) as well as line
graphs.
Then, they will work with
percentages, learning to
change percents into fractions,
decimals and ratios. After that,
we will move onto a more detailed understanding of ratios,

followed by practicing the

order of operations, and
methods of collecting data.

Social Studies
Students will soon begin a
project in which they will
research the vegetation and
climate of a specific
ecozone. Students will complete a written component
and present their project to
the class. A project outline,
an example and a check list
will be available on my
Teacher page of the
schools website. However,
students should have
enough time to work on
this in class so the project
should mainly be done at
school.

Science
The second unit out of
three that students will explore is: Space . Students
will learn about our solar
system (planets, stars, the
moon, the tides, the seasons, constellations, etc.)

Health
Students will have discussions about the use and
misuse of substances which
claim to assist in body
weight loss or muscle gain.
We will also define what is
meant by addictive behaviour (nicotine, gambling, tv,
alcohol, ect.).
