TapChat AAC Field Testing Report

Purpose: To observe potential users outside of the development environment use

the TapChat AAC on an Android Operating System smartphone and to solicit
feedback.

Date: October 26, 2015

About the subject

Two subjects, both children

One had a delayed speech pattern
Both were Native Turkish language speakers

Observations and client requests:

It was discovered that there was a need to delay the drag and drop feature as the child with the
speech delay was having difficulty just pressing the button or initializing the drag and drop
feature. Increasing the delay time to initialize drag and drop helped in distinguishing between
the two features.
A request was made seeking if we could incorporate a Turkish language feature as this tester
spoke this language. As per this request, an entire change language feature was added and fully
implemented into the application.

About the subject

One subject
Graduate student

Observations and client requests:

A discussion occurred with regards to using of the app with guidance from a caretaker or if it
was possible to provide guidance incorporated somewhere in the app. An example of this
would be showing that there exist tabs at the top of the screen as it is not easily distinguishable.
It was decided and disclosed that it would not be possible to add a guidance feature during the
short remaining time period prior to the project end date.
