For this project I used a United States map to display different points that Chris
McCandless traveled to during his life and the book Into the Wild. Each place has a quote or fact
significant to the place Chris was at and how he felt during his experience there. I related my
Inquiry paper a lot to why Chris traveled as well as people in general. For the first point in El
Segundo, California, I used a quote relating to how travel makes a person love home more
because El Segundo is Chriss hometown. This first point will also uses pathos because it makes
a person think of their love for home. The second point in Carthage, South Dakota is the first
place that Chris stayed in with his friend Wayne Westerburg. The quote relates to a significant
point in Chriss travel because he really started traveling and being happy with his decisions.
This fact will relate to logos because it supplies readers with a statistical fact on how travel
causes happiness. The third point in Bullhead City, Arizona is more into Chriss adventuring and
he finds more friends and people he relates to, figuring that adventure is becoming more apart of
himself. This point may relate to those through pathos because they may also be adventure
inclined. The fourth point across the border in Mexico explains Chriss way of escaping. This
may also appeal to ethos because of the use of the magazine Psychology Today. This magazine is
well known for statistics and studies in psychology that also have credible psychologists working
for them. The fifth point in Salton City, California represents Chriss meeting of his friend
Ronald Franz. This man was significant in friendships, which is why the quote Happiness is
only real when shared is included. This quote may appeal to pathos for a person because the
reader may believe that friendships are key to happiness and have a friend that makes them
happy as well. The last point in Alaska represents Chriss final destination and his most popular

quote. This quote describes happiness and adventure overall and really sums it up. Chris was
most happy when he traveled and his death was in a place he dreamed of being since a young
teenager. This point relates to pathos because anyone who has read or seen the movie would be
aware of not only the picture and Chriss death but also the location of Chriss death.
