What is a shortstop?

Good afternoon miners! How are

we feeling in this sunny day? Who
has played softball before? Okay,
lets start a quick warmup.
Everyone pair up, you only need 1
softball per pair. Lets form two
parallel lines across the field. Lets
start throwing the ball around with
your partner to warm up our arms
and legs. Now take 4 steps back.
Try to throw the ball exactly to your
partner. Now lets throw grounders.
Who can remember the proper
technique to field a grounder?
(Demonstrate) try to stay in front of
the ball. Now instead of just
throwing the ball try to pitch the ball
to your partner. Get a little closer to
each other. Remember, if your
pitching; stand square to your
partner, hold the ball with your palm
facing forward, swing the ball back,
and step forward with opposite foot
and release ball about waist height.
Alright now miners now that we got
that covered lets jump into a quick
activity called Pickle. Lets form
groups of 3.
The objective of the game is to
reach which ever base without
getting tagged. Infielders, will throw
the ball back and forth trying to tag
the runner. Infielders may chase
and leave the base. If the runner
reaches the base they score if they
get tagged out, switch spots.
Please do not dive or slide to reach
the base.

We will now play Teamwork

Softball. Lets form 4 groups of 4.
Decide who is catcher, 1st base, 2nd
base, and 3rd base. One team will
be playing infield first, while the
other team will be offense. The
offense will line up behind the home
plate. On Go signal the offense will
start running in file around the
plates. The offense scores a run for
each player that reaches home
before an out is made (in this
case before the infield throws the
ball around twice). The catcher will
throw the ball to third base, the third
base will throw to 2nd, the 2nd to 1st
base, and finally throw back to the
catcher (twice). Fielders must touch
each base with one foot each time.

Derby

Now, we will focus on batting. We

will play home run derby. Everyone
will get a chance to pitch, and bat.
The objective of the game is to hit
the ball and score. The hitter will
run through all the bases trying to
reach home plate before the
fielders retrieve the ball and throw
to the catcher in the catchers box.
Are there any questions?

Who remembers the

proper way to pitch?
