Established Goals:

Playing to discover, develop, and evaluate their talents and abilities relative
to playing a musical instrument, and to establish and reinforce correct
techniques and skills.
Listening to develop the ability to make aesthetic judgments based on critical
listening and analysis of music.

signatures of 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 and
2/2.

3. The terms slur, legato, accents
and staccato.
4. The terminology of: D.S. al Fine,
Fine, D.C. al Fine, coda, 1st and

Essential Questions:

help us further understand music?
2. How can we perform a piece to its full
potential?

Students will be able to do

1. Recognize and perform accurately in
the keys of: concert Bb.
2. Match an appropriate tuning note.
3. Recognize solo performances that

production.
4. Demonstrate proper playing position.
5. Demonstrate proper instrument
assembly, maintenance, and care.

Brief Description
Students will be observed during
teachers instruction and rehearsal of
music. I will have a checklist and each
class I will observe 1-3 students. The
checklist will be used for teacher
feedback. They will be able to use this
as assessment to further their
learning. Students will be able to
access the checklist from me and use
to determine a goal for their learning.
Students will be put into sections of
different instruments to give peer
feedback before the final
performance. Each student will
perform for each other and be
evaluated on a 3-2-1 system related
to what I will be evaluating them on
their final performance. Based on this
feedback students will be asked to
identify one strength and one area of
improvement to work on before their
final performance.
Students will perform the Bb major
scale and its arpeggio. I will allow
students to decide between 1 on 1
performance or in front of the class.
They will be graded on a 3-point scale.
This will be given as a grade as well as
feedback to further my teaching on
what we need to work on more.
Students will be asked to find a
popular song that interests them
(their favorite song) and do some
observation on it. They will have a
handout to complete asking to identify
some theory elements (rhythm, time
signature, instrumentation, etc.)
Whatever they can come up with. This
will be feedback to know what I need
to change in my theory lessons to

further their learning, and feedback

for them to reflect on what they need
to work on. The rubric will be
completed together in class to
determine what they are most
comfortable being graded on.
This will be a brief quiz highlighting
theory elements that are being
covered in class. It will be short and
used for assessment to check their
understanding of these basic
concepts. The quiz will be based off of
a number of outcomes from the unit.
These will give the students a chance
to reflect on their own playing. I will
provide a handout with question
causing them to reflect. This will
happen three times throughout the
unit. This will provide feedback for
their own learning on where they need
to improve and what they are happy
with, as well as feedback for my
lessons. They will be graded using a
rubric that the students and myself
will create.
This will be the final assessment for
the class and is performance based.
They will be asked to choose their
favorite 4 measures of the piece and
certain elements will need to be
included as well. They will be given
class time to practice their selected
measures. Students can either send in
a recording or do a 1 on 1
performance with me. This final
assessment will also be graded with a
rubric created by the entire class and
myself.
