Grade/ Grade Band: grade 4

Topic:

melting and boiling points.

Lesson # 3 in a series of 6 lessons.

Brief Lesson Description:

This lesson will be about melting and boiling points. This lesson will teach the students about the melt
point and boiling points and that by doing an experiment by using ice, thermometer, water, and boiler.
First the students need to measure the temperature of the water in a room temperature. Then, they will
have an ice they will put it in a cup then they will wait for it until melt and they will measure it. Finally,
the students will measure the boiling point by using water and the boiler. The teacher will give the students
a worksheet that include a table to write the data they collect it. And finally the teacher will evaluate the
students understanding by giving them a worksheet that include a questions that related to the lesson.
Performance Expectation(s):

Students will explain the milt point and the boiling point temperature by using the data that they collect it
from the experiment.
Specific Learning Outcomes:

Students will recognize that the melting and boiling point is change when the temperature is change.

Narrative / Background Information

Prior Student Knowledge:

State of matter.
Science & Engineering Practices:

Disciplinary Core ideas :

Crosscutting Concepts:

Students will be asked questions

about why the ice is milt. How
can the liquid change to the gas.

The student will Ask questions,

making observations, and they
will gather the information to
help them to think about
problems.

Causes and effects:

Simple experiment can be
designed to gather evidence to
support or refute student ideas
about how can liquid change to
gas.

Possible Preconceptions/Misconceptions:

Students may confuse about how ice change to liquid.

LESSON PLAN 5-E Model

ENGAGE: Opening Activity Access Prior Learning / Stimulate Interest / Generate Questions:

First the teacher will start the lesson by asking them a questions the state of matter. And then she
will ask them about can the solid change to liquid.

EXPLAIN: Concepts Explained and Vocabulary Defined:

Vocabulary:

The teacher will give the students a worksheet to fill in the data that they collect it from the
experiment. And then they will discuss what they get in front of their friends.

ELABORATE: Applications and Extensions:

The students will present the data that they collect it and they will share it with their friends and
they will see if their data is same or not.

EVALUATE:
Formative Monitoring (Questioning / Discussion):
Summative Assessment (Quiz / Project / Report):

The teacher will give each student a worksheet that different questions about the lesson. They will
do it individually.
