Firstly, I would like to say that the reading provides a clear definition of the

topic from the very beginning and afterwards, starts to develop and
complete it. It is also very helpful the fact that every new concept is clarified
with examples, so you can get the meaning much better.
On the one hand, it begins explaining how evolutionary psychology is
different among others, and then emphasizes on the importance of the age
for evolutionary processes as well as the culture, the historical moment or
the social status. In my opinion this is very interesting because we realize
about how many variations and factors are involved and influence the
process of psychological development. However, it is revealing for me that
the personal traits and characteristics, unique in everyone, therefore, not
very conditioned by exterior agents, are considered one of the main factors.
On the other hand, there is a chapter where it is explained the change that
has been about the new approach. Some years ago, evolutionary
psychology was focused on children and teenagers development and then,
in the contemporary age, it has grown to analyze older ages. Another
impressive fact is that during 13 th Century, the idea of childhood did not
exist, because children who survived, were considered little adults due to
they have to work since very young ages. I think that this chapter is very
necessary because readers can get a better understanding of nowadays
approaches if they know the previous factors. It also tells us how the
changed between only focusing on children to contemplate adults too, have
been made according to the evolutionary psychology of the vital cycle. I
think that this was a huge consideration and marked out the development of
the contemporary understanding of the topic.
It mentions philosophers such as Locke, Rousseau, Kant or Darwin and how
they influenced the different territories with their ideas and, in consequence,
which educational approaches had more or less importance in each territory.
This part of the reading and some others such as the Bronfenbrenners
model or the mention to Vygotski, are familiar to us as students because we
worked about them in some subjects in our previous years.
This reading has been very useful for understanding how evolutionary
psychology has evolved and how different thoughts, influences and
approaches have complement and finished to define the nowadays
conception.
I also think that some parts were a little bit too specific so different concepts
were mixed, but with patience and thanks to the many examples that it
provides, makes it a very interesting reading.
