Memo To School Principal

To: Dr. Frazier

From: NeAnn Wooten
Subject: Library Media Program Evaluation
Mrs. Behling, Jasper County Middle School Librarian, and I recently completed the GA
DOE 2015 Library Media Program Evaluation Rubric. Overall, the results can be greatly
improved. In many areas we rated the Jasper County Middle School library as basic. Out of the
twenty-one elements evaluated, thirteen were basic, six proficient, and three were exemplary.
Category 1 Student Achievement and Instruction
Element 1 The librarian will view webinars and meet with instructional coach weekly to stay
abreast on standards to assist teachers when needed.
Element 2 - This element will be improved by creating a schedule to plan with teachers weekly
and give them ideas on books and technology to incorporate in their curriculum. The librarian
will be held accountable by having teachers initial after each planning session.
Element 3 Librarian will begin planning and doing collaborative lessons with teachers. She
will begin by co-teaching and eventually present differentiated lessons in the media center.
Element 4 Mrs. Behling will begin creating a monthly newsletter and will keep the new media
centers Weebly updated with book and student spotlights as well as other important information.

Element 5 The librarian will give student learning inventory surveys to see how they learn best.
These will be evaluated and used when planning lessons so each student will have the equal
opportunity to learn.
Element 6 Mrs. Behling will assist teachers in creating rubrics, surveys, and assignments to
assess student achievement.
Category 2 - Technology
Element 7 The librarian will ensure all teachers are aware of the technology opportunities they
have to use in the classroom by presenting a professional development. Element 8 The librarian
will do classroom visits to make sure technology is working properly and teachers are
implementing it correctly.
Category 3 - Staffing
Element 9b Although Mrs. Behling has a paraprofessional, she is often times pulled to
substitute for an absent teacher. Hopefully Jasper County will hire more substitute teachers so
paraprofessionals will not have to be pulled.
Category 4 Facilities, Access, and Resources
Element 12 A student news show with live streaming is in the process of being established.
Students will give important social and curriculum news through a live broadcast that will be
aired from the media center. This is hoped to begin for the 2016-2017 school year.
Element 14 Mrs. Behling is applying for many grants to receive funding for new books, in the
effort of keeping the resources up to par.

Element 15 The librarian will present lessons on Galileo using different instructional strategies
to students to ensure proper usage is taking place.
Category 5 Administrative Support
Element 16 The system media contact person will begin meeting with the media specialists in
Jasper County monthly beginning in January.
Element 17 The principal will begin meeting with Mrs. Behling once a week to gain
knowledge on instructional technology. Dr. Frazier, principal, will then be encouraged to highly
suggest teachers are utilizing the opportunities given to them.
Element 18 Mrs. Behling will encourage the library media advisory committee to give the
middle school library funding for next school year. This year all of the funds went to the primary
and elementary schools and Mrs. Behling and I both agreed that middle school is the most
critical area. Hence, at least some funding should be given to the middle school library.
Element 19 Mrs. Behling will begin editing and reviewing the media center policy annually.
Element 20 Mrs. Behling will meet with the school and district administration to advocate for
funding and with that funding set a budget for the next school year.
Category 6 Staff Development
Element 21 The librarian will consistently view webinars and give suggestions of webinars for
teachers to view monthly.
Proficient to Exemplary Category 4
Element 10; from proficient to exemplary

The area of flexibility, access, and resources was rated proficient. Although the library is open
from 7:30-4:00, this element can be exemplary if a few nights the library had special evening
hours. On Tuesdays, the Jasper County Middle School library will remain open until 5:00 pm so
parents can explore and conduct research with their student(s). This could greatly benefit the
students and parents in Jasper County. Parents who work would love to visit their childs school
library and assist finding and reading books as well as witnessing what the infamous Accelerated
Reader Tests are like.
I have enjoyed working with Mrs. Behling and I feel as if I am more abreast of the
functions of the library. This evaluation made us realize both the positive and negative and we
look forward to working together to make the Jasper County Middle School Library Exemplary
in all elements.
