Materials and Resources


1. Paint (Red, Blue, Yellow)
2. Paint brushes
3. Pencils
4. Cups with water for brush cleaning
5. Color mixing worksheets
6. IPad (class set with Play 123 app)
Procedures and content
1. T: Introduce lesson by gathering students on carpet and
explaining steps for lesson.
2. T: Explain that when two colors mix, they form new colors. Show
example of colored worksheet and mixing two colors with fresh
paint.
3. T: Assign each student to a table in the classroom where
materials are provided and ready (worksheets, paint, water cups,
etc.).
4. S: Sit at assigned tables and begin painting worksheets. T: Walk
around room and guide students in their painting/monitor
student progress and behavior.
5. S: Wash hands after painting is done. T: After students have
finished painting, place pictures on drying racks to dry.
6. T: Have students gather around carpet.
7. T: Show students the Play 123 app on iPad. Connect with color
mixing.
8. S: Sit at seat at assigned table and wait for teacher to pass out
class set of iPad to each student. T: Pass out class set of iPad to
each student.
9. S: Play with the Play 123 app (experiment with colors and color
mixing, etc.)

T: Clean up any classroom mess from painting lesson while
students are on iPad. After 15 minutes, have students put
classroom iPad away. Gather students around carpet. Ask them
what they experienced/liked/learned from the Play 123 app.

T: Go over color mixing: Ask follow up questions (What
color is made when blue and red are mixed? When blue and
yellow are mixed? When red and yellow are mixed?) Assess
student understanding.

T: Close lesson and get students ready for next activity.
