To Whom It May Concern:

Carly Bove was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our 3-unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient group therapy. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.
Carly Bove is one the best and the brightest of a highly competitive class of RNs-to-be from the
20th ranked College of Nursing in the nation. If you are reading this letter, count your blessings
and promise yourself you will be interviewing Carly Bove as soon as possible. Why? Just
review her academic, clinical, work, and volunteer history --- outstanding and quite balanced
with emphasis on service and caring for others. That is who Carly is - one of the most
conscientious, caring students I've known. Heaven forbid, if I or my family are ever in need of
healthcare, I would want a smart, warm hearted person like Carly taking care of us. Also, do not
discount Carly's SNUA and Greek affiliation activities. In this day and age, they mean that she
has participated in processes and events with proven leadership abilities.
Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Carly will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice.
Carly Bove proves that "good things come in small packages" - not to sound too discriminatory!
When you meet her, you will be captivated by her energy level, her nuanced assessment of
situations and people, and her mature appreciation of the humor part of the human condition.
Don't hesitate to appoint Carly to your healthcare team. Usually, we recommend that students
apply for generalist RN position as a new grad., but in Carly's case, that really doesn't apply. If
you have an opening that fits her objective, you can't go wrong with Carly - new grad or not!
She will revel in the opportunity now, and, in the future, as one of your nurse leaders, she will
prove how prescient your judgment was.
Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN

Clinical Instructor
