Multimedia Presentation Summary Sheet
1. Topic
The topic of this presentation is character traits. The setting is in a 3rd grade
classroom in an elementary school. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the
basic concept character traits to students. The basic definition of character traits,
examples of character traits, and internal and external character traits are discussed. By
introducing character traits, my students will be able to incorporate these concepts for
more robust writing. In addition, I hope to hone their inference skills and their ability to
analyze texts for specific content.
2. Audience
The audience for this presentation is third grade students approximately eight
years old. These students may be of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Before this lesson,
the students will have already learned about inference, and story elements. Specifically,
students will know that characters are a story element. Students with special needs will be
given individual support consistent with any IEPs. Students with any visual impairments
will be seated at the front of the class. Students with learning disabilities will be given
extra scaffolding during independent practice.
3. Objectives
a. After viewing the presentation on character traits, students will be able to
distinguish between internal and external character traits.
b. After viewing the presentation on character traits, students will be able to identify
three character traits from a text.
c. After viewing the presentation on character traits, students will be able to describe
a character using three traits.
4. Concept Map

A concept map was used during this presentation as an aid to assist students with
describing a character by its traits. It was used to
show the relationship between the character traits
and the character itself. In addition, it was used to
further illustrate that one character may have many
traits and may have both external and internal traits. It was also used to scaffold the
material by having students give examples to complete the concept map.
5. Identifying Resource Media
A handout will be given to students during the lesson to further illustrate character
traits and the categories of internal and external traits. This handout can be found and
downloaded for free at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Character-TraitsAnchor-Chart-2007675 . A version of this handout will also be in the presentation. The
purpose of this handout is to visualize and differentiate between internal and external
character traits and to illustrate how one character can have both of these categories of
traits.
6. ISTE Standards
The standard used in my presentation is standard:
1. Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop
innovative products and processes using technology.
a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, and
processes.
It is used in the lesson during a follow up activity explained in the next section. Students
use technology to apply the knowledge from this lesson to generate a product: a character
illustration and description.
7. Follow-up Activities

Several follow-up activities will be done to dig deeper into the concept of
character traits. First, students will complete an internal and external character trait sort
that can be found and downloaded online at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/
Product/CHARACTER-TRAITS-INTERNALEXTERNAL-671645. Students will use
the T-Chart graphic organizer to distinguish between internal and external traits.
Additionally, students will complete a graphic organizer, which can be found for free at
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Character-Trait-Analysis-for-GuidedReading-352422. This graphic organizer will help students to organize information and to
identify three character traits from the text. Finally, students will use technology to create
a character scrapbook. They will create an illustration and a list of descriptions for the
character from a book or poem they choose using this website: http://teacher.scholastic
.com/activities/scrapbook/. These activities will be done throughout the following days to
help reinforce the lesson objectives.
