Lesson Cycle
Instructional delivery:
PowerPoint showing definition, examples,
and different ways to create shape poems
and lecture showing and describing shape
poems
Check for Understanding:
Ask students questions during the
powerpoint

Guided Practice:
I choose a circle shape and pizza topic to
model a shape poem
Check for Understanding:
When students give their input, ask
questions to make sure they understand
why a specific word or phrase would be
used for the particular shape
Independent Practice:
Hand out various shapes to each group for
students to make their own shape poem
Check for Understanding:
Walk around checking on the progress of
the students' poems and asking and/or
answering questions
Closure:
Recap what has been taught and make sure
there are not any more questions

Enrichment:
Encourage students to use other shapes not
used in the lesson to create more shape
poems
