Binging Hotline
for Teens
Alcohol use among teens increases the risk of both date rape
and suicide significantly. A 2005 National Survey on Drug Use
and Health estimated there were eleven million underage
drinkers in the United States.
The ratio of anorexia nervosa between teenage girls and boys is
approximately 9:1. The disorder of continual fasting translates
into adulthood and can reduce an average height woman to
less than eighty pounds in its final stages. Nearly 1000 women
die as a result each and every year.
Binging consists of episodes of starvation followed by
uncontrollable eating, and generally goes hand in with bulimia.

sexually abused at home. Nearly one-third of all runaway
interviewed stated that they have attempted suicide at some
point. More than fifty percent of runaways in shelters have
stated that their parents either told them to leave or knew that
they were leaving and did not care.

Suicide Hotline
for Teens
1.866.210.5429 There are three other suicide lines listed; one can only be
reached from Ohio and the others have answering
machines. Unlike other suicide hotlines, we take a
proactive approach. We do not ask questions as to whether
the caller has a plan or whom they have told or how they
are feeling. We try and learn why they feel their lives are
hopelessdid they just get fired? Did they just have a
break-up? Did someone they loved just die? We try to get
at the root of their emotions and fix the issue. If they were
evicted, we try to find them shelter. If they were diagnosed
with an illness, we try and find them a treatment and give
them hope. We believe that if you just calm a person down,
once the call is ended, the pain begins again. This to us is
unacceptable.
