Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you dont help them,
at least dont hurt them (Dalai Lama). This quote, to me, really encompasses my
overarching goals for my future in healthcare. I want to use this health education
knowledge that I have learned throughout my college career to help and serve those
below the poverty line, to achieve a life full of health and happiness, so that they in
turn are able to accomplish their dreams, just as I have done mine. Not every child
is fortunate enough to be born into a family that may have the ability to take
adequate care of their child. Whether it being a fiduciary issue, or just a lack of
education to the parent. I would want to focus on providing proper health
education to the demographic group below the poverty line. In my role as a
volunteer at the Sulzbacher center, I saw first hand many of the issues that need to
be addressed to help improve this populations health and well being. I believe it is
an issue that should be given more attention than it is.

I would want to work my way towards become a Certified Health Education
Specialist (CHES), I believe this would be a key component used to help me attain
my professional goals. I would use the knowledge attained through my certification
to 1) assess the needs of my population in focus. Look at the assets available to that
population in their demographics, and look at the populations capacity to learn
such information. From that point I would want to 2) plan the type of information I
thought was relevant to share with the population, and the best theory to use that
could help motivate others to change their behavior. Once the best method was
determined to share that information, then the 3) implementation process would
begin. After that process had already been implemented we will then go about
conducting a 4) evaluation through surveys, to determine if the education process
had been successful or not. I really want to make a difference in this world, and
through processes in different under-privileged areas I would hope to make an
impact in the lives of others.

Currently as a senior attaining my degree in Health Administration, and a
minor in Public Health, I am working towards graduation where I can attain a job
that would have me working hands on with employees. I have been working with
Baptist Medical Center as a Medical Lab Assistant for a couple years now, and am
hoping to continue my career through this organization, and move more in the
direction of the Employee Health and Wellness setting. Working in such a
department would allow me the opportunity to work hands on with employees on
many aspects of wellness, whether it is healthy living, or group patient education.
This would be an opportunity for me to utilize the knowledge I have attained
through my college experience.
