After School Intern Responsibilities:

As an Intern you will be expected to participate in a practical educational experience for school credit within an
acute child and adolescent program. This experience will be designed so as to expose you to a variety of
activities and functions related to the social work/psychology field and be of mutual benefit to the student and to
Philhaven. The position will also assist the student to develop interpersonal communication skills and expose the
student to interdisciplinary treatment programs. The interns assignment will include various different tasks
depending upon departmental priorities, student interest, and time constraints. Below are a list of duties that an
Intern will be expected to complete:
Reviews charts
Observes groups
Observes admissions
Develops therapeutic relationships with assigned clients
Observes family contacts
Reviews policy and procedure manual, safety procedures, and patient rights
Observes staff using TCI on Milieu.
Redirect, prompt, and cue as indicated by treatment plan
Assists with completion of daily progress notes
Assists with formulation and implementation of treatment plans
Utilizes counseling skills to facilitate therapeutic contacts with patients
Assists with, and conduct individual and family sessions, as appropriate
Assists with discharge planning and documentation
Attends and participate in interagency meetings
Participates in team meetings
Attends scheduled in-services
Reviews articles and resources to facilitate learning needs
Participates, assist, and facilitate in therapeutic activities and groups as arranged with staff
Observes, assesses, and reports clients responses to treatment to appropriate persons
Participates in day-to-day activities
Assists in planning and facilitating meals
Assists with program transportation of clients, as needed
Visits other Philhaven programs and other community agencies to develop a working knowledge of community
programs
Assists staff with off-ground therapeutic trips, as needed

After
School

Program

The purpose of the After School Program is to help youth improve their social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in the
home, school and community settings by providing routine therapeutic activities during the afternoon and evening hours
(daytime hours in the summer). The program aims to better equip students and their parents so that they can be more
successful in natural support settings such as home, school, church youth groups, Girl & Boy Scouts, 4-H and sports.

Services Provided

Services are provided to students ages 5-14 that have behavioral and emotional problems with a mental health diagnosis.

The After School Program provides therapeutic activities such as social skills training, sharing and listening activities, partner
time, therapeutic recreation, homework time, coping skills training, goal setting, independent living skills training, community
field trips and family outreach. Transportation may be provided.
