My name is Elizabeth Grant and I am a student at Christopher Newport University. I am

applying to be a part of the Masters in the Art of Teaching, hopefully to becoming a teacher
on day. I am a Biology Major with two minors in Chemistry and Leadership Studies. With all
of this academic knowledge and extensive experience in working with children and diverse
people groups, I hope that I will be a good fit for the program. As a teacher, it is my hope to
mold minds to see to wonderful complexities of the sciences and inspire the children to
pursue a love in science.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Working with children from ages 4 to 16. I have also worked with College age students from
ages 18 to 21. I have had work experience in the on campus spirit ware store, where I
gained the experience of working with people who have different personality types and

and meticulous note taking. I have a strong work ethic that inspires me to be a dedicated
student as well as an employee.

EXPERIENCE

SALES ASSOCIATE THE CAPTAINS LOCKER

MARCH 1, 2015- PRESENT

I work in an environment where I work with people from different backgrounds and
experiences. I service people with different personality types. I learned how to dedicate my
time to reach a goal. The work ethic that was taught to me has inspired me to become an
enthusiastic worker and to utilize the time that I have at work to complete the most I can to
assist my employer and aid my manager in the best way that I can. This job has taught me
to think on my feet and to be able to transition and adapt to a new situation quickly. This
position has also taught me how to be gracious and patient with other people even when I
personally am physically exhausted. This position has opened my eyes to appreciate people
who work in other sales positions and motivates me to treat other people with more respect.
NANNY ANGIE KING
MAY 31, 2014- AUGUST 25, 2014

Nannied a 4 year old and a 6 year old for a few months. This helped me get necessary
experiences when working with the same children over a couple months. I gained effective
ways of disciplining a child. I taught the children the method of asking nicely in order to
receive what they wanted. I also learned that you need to find creative ways of entertaining
a child without setting them in front of the television for extended periods of time.

helped the students remain engaged in the lesson. I learned ways to help students start a
conversation to discuss certain topics. I learned how much preparation was needed in order
to feel prepared for teaching the lesson.

comfortable until their parents return to pick them up at the end of the Sunday school hour. I
play with the children. I make sure that they share their toys. I make sure that everyone is
clean and has a snack. I help the children clean up their toys once the Sunday school hour

I have taught college women, freshman through seniors for an entire semester. I have
organized lessons, prepared lessons to teach to the bible study. I have learned how much

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL LEADER OCEANVIEW CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH,
1241 HILLSIDE AVE., NORFOLK, VA 23503
I taught children ages 3 to 13. I lead children around the church as we participated in
different activities such as singing, dancing, crafting, and playing games. After the activities
were complete, a lesson was Bible lesson was taught a children were able to participate in
the lesson. The children shared about their experiences and explained how the lesson
applied. This experience has taught me patience and the power of delegation. If there were
older children in my group, they helped me with keeping the children well behaved and
staying on task. This experience also taught me how different students learn and how to
adapt to how each student learns.

EDUCATION

SUMMIT CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, 4209 BIG BETHEL ROAD YORKTOWN, VA 23693

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

High School GPA: 4.15

I lead Bible study for 7 th and 8th grade girls. I learned how much preparation was necessary
to lead a bible study. I co-lead this bible study. This co-leadership prepared me to work with
many different personalities and made me feel comfortable working alongside other people.
I was a part of the National Honors Society and the Spanish National Honors Society. I was
a part of the Worship team and lead a group of 7th through 11th grade students in leading
worship for the school. I was required to take a debate class and a public speaking class in
order to feel comfortable in front of a classroom. I also was a part of the Drama Department.
This helped me feel comfortable in front of people and helped my memory expand to retain
more words and knowledge at one time. I was awarded the Eagle award twice while at
Summit Christian Academy. This award is the highest and most prestigious award that can
be given. It emphasizes an above and beyond effort in areas such as leadership, service
and academics. I received it for both my junior year as well as my senior year. I was the
manager for the Summit Christian Academy volleyball and soccer teams. I was the manager
for the volleyball team my junior year and was the manager for the soccer team my senior
year at Summit Christian Academy. I learned how to organize the athletic equipment
required for both teams. I learned how maintain statistics for both teams to help demonstrate
their strengths and where the players need to improve. I learned how to work well with
different personalities and attitudes.
CALVARY CLASSICAL SCHOOL, 403 WHEALTON ROAD, HAMPTON, VA 23666
ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION

I received by schooling here from kindergarten to eighth grade. While at the school, from 5th
grade to 8th grade, I was a part of the leading class of the school. My class was a part of
some of the decision making at the school. We helped plan fundraising opportunities for the
students. We helped with school spirit and with helping other younger classes feel welcome
at the school. My class was also the test subject to see if the school could sustain having a
middle school attached to the elementary school. Even though these changes, I had a very
hands, personal learning experience. I was in a classroom that taught with a classical and
Christian approach to learning. From around 3rd grade until 8th grade, I was instructed in
Latin courses. This introduced me to a new language and broadened my horizon when
trying to learn new English words. I was taught the fundamental rules of each subject, the
ordered relationship of particulars in each subject and how the grammar and logic of each

subject may be expressed clearly.

HIGHER EDUCATION

At this institution, I am in the process of receiving my Bachelors of Science degree in the

Biology department. Along with my Biology studies, I am focusing on Leadership studies and
Chemistry. These two areas help me become a well-rounded student. The Chemistry minor
opens up more opportunities to see the complexity of biological systems by seeing which
compounds are consumed and created during consistent biological processes. The
Leadership minor gives me more experience with how different personalities leads. It also
shows me how people from different culture perceive other people and teaches me different
techniques to apply so that I may be able to lead not only in the American culture but be
able to lead the best way possible if I come in contact with another culture.

LEADERSHIP

I was the leader of a bible study both at Summit Christian Academy and Christopher
Newport University. I was a Bible Study leader for 7 th and 8th grade girls while at Summit
Christian Academy and now I am a Bible Study leader as a part of the leadership team of
Reformed University Fellowship chapter at Christopher Newport University. I was a Sunday
School Teacher for children between 1st and 2nd grade for a summer at Calvary Reformed
Presbyterian Church. I was a nursery worker at Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Church as
well. I am a part of the leadership team for Reformed University Fellowship based out of
Christopher Newport University. I am a brother in the Alpha Delta Xi chapter of Alpha Phi
Omega service fraternity. I was the manager for both the womens volleyball and soccer
teams at Summit Christian Academy. I was the volleyball manager during my junior year and
was the manager of the soccer team my senior year at Summit Christian Academy. I was a
part of the most advanced class at Calvary Classical School and helped make decisions that
would impact the possible continuance of a middle school along with the elementary school
that Calvary Classical School already provided. Finally, I was a Vacation Bible School
teacher, teaching children from ages 3 to 13.
