2111 PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

My Physical Development
1. My personal growth and development
1. We often refer to overall body growth, which includes both weight and height as
somatic growth (Winsor, Murrell, Jackson, 2015 p. 24)
2. Growing pains, Joins and muscles changing
1. Topic In depth
1. Human development is a process that never stops and is always changing. There
are no explanations for when the development starts or stops. (Winsor, Murrell,
Jackson, 2015)
2. Neural growth, somatic growth, reproductive growth
3. Process Explanation
4. For some, "long-term" may be the time span that includes childhood and
adolescence, whereas for others it may be only for this season or year. The term
"athlete" has led some to dismiss the entire phrase, believing the model is only
appropriate for the small percentage of the population engaged in sports, while for
others, "athlete" refers to the contextual athleticism of the individual at that
particular point in time, based on his/her opportunity and endowment (Howard,
Rick, Lloyd, Rhodri S., Olympic Coach, 20150301, Vol. 26, Issue 1).

5. My personal development brought on very many obstacles. I grew 6 inches in 2 months.
Because of this short timing and so much growth, I began to see injuries in my joints and
bones. I had knee problems a lot. I had to sit out of physical activity for a few months
while my bones were still getting used to the growing. Most people consider these as
growing pains. The biggest pain I got was in my knees because I was always using them
excessively because I am a dancer.
It began in the sixth grade when I was at dance and started to notice my knees giving out.
I went to the doctor and explained what all was happening and he said that I had sprained my
MCL and ACL while dancing. I was in a brace for quite some time.
After a few weeks went by from sitting out of dance class, I went back to dancing and
everything was fine for a few weeks. Then things started to happen again where I was developing
pain in the back of my knees. I went back to the doctor and they asked how much I had grown in
the past few months. When I told them how much it was, they knew right away what the problem
was.
This was something a lot of people go through, but mostly boys. My doctors see these
growing pains in boys more than girls, so they didnt think about this being a problem when they
first saw me.

1. Physical
1. Somatic
2. My personal growth is different from somebody elses growth. Everybodys
changes.
3. My joints and muscles finally grew into my body, so now I do not receive the
pains I had before.
