Teaching methods are very important to consider prior to becoming a teacher.

I
definitely have a more progressivism view of how to teach a classroom; I like how
progressivism has integrated first hand experiences to demonstrate the topics being
taught. I also like how Social Reconstructionism uses real world experiences to teach
and then uses these lessons to promote social change inside and outside of the
classroom. I like the idea Existentialism uses that students have a choice in what they
are learning because I feel like they should be interested in what they are learning.
When students aren't interested in what they are learning there is a good chance that
they will not look forward to coming to your class everyday and that is something I
would never want as a teacher. I think that reaching out to your students is a very
important part of how you teach; what you teach should be relatable to the real world
and it should have some interest to your students to keep encourage them to do well in
the class.
Classroom environment is a huge part of how a teacher is perceived by their students
and how the students perceive the teacher. I believe that in order to have a respectful
classroom you have to agree with Perennialisms view of teacher control; the teacher is
the one who should be in control and have the constant attention of the students. I also
agree with Essentialisms view that the teacher is the dispenser of knowledge and that
the students are disciplined. Teachers are the ones who are well rounded in their
subject area so i believe that the teacher is the one who should lead the discussion. I
also agree with Progressivisms view that the student should be self-motivated to do
their work rather than be motivated for a different reason. I also agree that students
should have an interesting learning environment. I would like my students to feel
comfortable enough in my class to speak whenever they would like so long as it is
related to the subject. I would also like for my students to feel comfortable speaking to
me about whatever they need to talk about.
I think that assessments are a very important part of teaching philosophy. I would
probably have a written and a multiple choice assessment. I think multiple choice
assessments are useful because they can cover any area in the entire topic being
covered. You can also see what areas students may have not understood as well as
you thought they did; multiple choice assessments are useful for collecting data about
your teaching so I would use these to reflect on how my students are doing and what I
would need to cover more. I think written assessments are also good to see how well
students can produce the material that they learned. When assessing a student I think it
is important to see their production and see how well you have taught the material.
Technology in classrooms is inevitable. I came from a high school where students rarely
used technology to aid their learning; now I am observing at a high school where it is
"one-to-one" so it is very different to see how their classrooms are run. I think one-toone can be very beneficial because then students don't have to constantly be carrying

around heavy books like I did in high school. I also think technology can be unreliable at
the same time. We will all have to deal with it one way or another when we become
teachers so I think how much I integrate technology in my classroom will depend on
where and what I am teaching. If I am teaching math I doubt that I will be using as much
technology as if I were teaching history.
