Remediation:
-Remind students
to stay on task.
-Extend work time.
-Sit one-on-one to
work through
problems.

Enrichment:
This class contains
no gifted students.
However if
students complete
homework faster
than others, then

Instruction:
-After the anticipatory set, students will be handed out a graphic organizer that
states Facebook Character Summary as the title.
-The graphic organizer is made the same way as a Facebook page with a box for the
profile picture where students will have to illustrate a picture of however they would
like to show August. It also includes a timeline photo, a recent activity box, an about
box, a friends box, favorite movies box, and a favorite books box.
-Students will be given 20-30 minutes to work on their Facebook page.

-Once time is up, students will be asked to complete a graphic organizer that is
made for students to fill out information on the character of August.
-The graphic organizer includes Augusts name in the middle with four boxes
surrounding to describe Auggies looks, Auggies behaviors, Auggies personality
traits, and Auggies feelings.
-We will complete two boxes from the graphic organizer as a class, and students will
complete the other two on their own.
-Students will be asked to pull textual evidence from the book to support their
descriptions of August.
-Students will be given about 15 minutes.
-Once completed, students will use that graphic organizer to write a thorough
description of August Pullman.
-Students will be given 30-45 minutes to write the description.
-Once time is up, we will come together as a class and discuss the previous reading
assignments and possibly read the next read aloud if there is time.
Guided and Independent Practice:
-Students will apply what has been taught by completing the Facebook page,
graphic organizer, and the character analysis of August Pullman
Closure:
-As a closure, students will be redirected as a whole for a class discussion. As a
discussion, we will discuss the previous reading assignments as well as the main
character of August.
Alternate Plan B:
-If time has run out before completing the Facebook page, graphic organizer, or the
character analysis, then the lesson will have to be moved further till the next day.
-If students are having problems finding textual evidence to back up their
descriptions of August, then we will work together as a classroom to better
understand how to pull textual evidence from the novel.
Post-Assessment:
-As a post-assessment, students will turn in their Facebook pages, graphic
organizers, and their character analysis. This will determine if students are able to
understand the character of August Pullman and use textual evidence to back up
their descriptions.
Resources/Materials/Equipment: (Technology, Visuals, Supplies, Professional
References)
-Resources include sticky notes from the beginning of the lesson, and graphic
organizers for students to complete.
