The article proposes that the view that gay men have a greater amount of preoccupation
than heterosexual men with their appearance of their body. Study 1 investigated
differences in self-objectification and body image among gay and heterosexual men. The
analysis showed that gay men scored higher on self-objectification, body shame, and
body dissatisfaction, and drive for thinness. In the second study, the authors
experimentally manipulated state self-objectification and found that for gay men,
increasing state self-objectification resulted in greater body shame and dissatisfaction and
more restrained eating. With these statistics and figures they will help with seeing
problems that involve with the strive to be thin and attractive in a quantitative figure.

This article proposes the study between gay men and straight men with their current body
type, their ideal body type, and what body type they believe should have attract a dating
partner. In gay men the discrepancy was greater than straight men, creating concerns in
eating, shape and weight concerns. How this will help is that it will proved more
information to understand the issue with more depth on how gay men are more related to
body issues in a qualitative figure to follow.

This Documentary exhibits the kind of lives that gay men go through in their pursuit of
physical perfection. It speaks about eating disorders, steroid use and body shaming that
happens to people who are not part of a community dedicated to body perfection. This
will help strengthen the argument about how body issues effect the gay community by
providing a face to the demographic of people who experience these issues.

This book is an Encyclopedia that is dedicated to gay histories and cultures. This
literature provides a wide basis of information of subject in encyclopedia format.
Providing a section pertaining to the subject matter of body image and how it has always
been an issue due to the cultural influence of standards on beauty. How this will pertain
to the problem in the community, is that the section will bring a wide base of information
to reflect back on what could be the underlining issues of the problems with body image
in the gay community locally.

This article is dedicated to finding out whether body image is linked to self esteem and
better belonging to the community. This study found the significance in a sample group
of gay men in Australia who participated in the scale to find whether the two ideas were
correlated with each other. It was found that body image had significance in self esteem
and sense of belonging. This will help provide additional reasons why gay men put
themselves to obtain eating disorders, steroid use and other methods to achieve ideal
physique.
