Genre

How would you categorise your documentary (i.e. on

current issues, celebrities, nature, health/science,
human interest, experimental, etc.)
The genre of my Documentary would be current issues and
pressures on society.

Your
beliefs and
bias on
the topic:

My personal belief about the subject is that:

My personal belief on this subject matter is that beauty isnt just
what is seen on the outside and that a persons personality is
what really reflects a persons true beauty. I also think that no
one should ever feel pressured into looking a certain way.
Everyone is beautiful in their own kind of way and they
shouldnt compare themselves to others.
My film will show the following point of view:
The main point of view that is going to be put across in this
documentary is that in todays society both males and females
are pressured into going through certain measures in order to
be what is seen as beautiful, especially in teenagers and young
adults.
The main conflict is between the following points of view
(if there is one):
The two points of view that will cause a conflict in my
documentary would be the different peoples views on what
beauty is and what it means to be beautiful. A lot of people will
probably think that beauty is only on the outside and that
certain cosmetics is what is seen to make people more
beautiful. Other people will think that makeup and cosmetics
dont need to be worn to be seen as beautiful and that everyone
is beautiful in their own way and they need to just carry

themselves with confidence and not compare themselves to

others.

Ultimately I want the audience to feel and understand:

By the end of my documentary, I want my audience to feel
confident in their own skin and to not feel pressured into having
to look a certain way in order to be beautiful. I want the
audience to feel as if they no longer have to compare
themselves to runway models or the magazines models. I also
want this documentary to open the audiences eyes into
different points of view. This way it might help the audience
change their point of view which could help them become less
insecure.
What background information does the audience need to
understand the topic of your film?

My personal belief about the subject is that:

Characters

Who are the characters in our documentary and what is

their role or purpose? Is there a particular point of view
they are meant to get across?

How do you intend to represent these characters?

Will there be any conflict between characters with

opposing points of view? If so, how will you show this in
your film?

Bias of

The audience of your documentary might have

preconceptions or fixed beliefs about your topic that you

Audience

would like to change. What might these be?

The beliefs and points of views that I would like to change in my
audience would be that beauty isnt only what you see on the
outside and that you should see everyone as beautiful in their
own way.
What evidence will you show to get the audience to see
things differently?

Codes &
Conventio
ns

What codes and conventions of documentary filmmaking

will you include and why?

In what ways will your documentary be realistic or

unrealistic? Certain parts may contain aspects of
verisimilitude, whereas others may possess aspects of
actuality.

Production
Style

Identify any key imagery or metaphors you would like to

include:

Do you intend to use a particular shooting, editing or

narrative style to help get your message across?

How do you intend to handle the passage of time in the

film?

Structure

To dramatise human issues a documentary might follow

a narrative structure starting with the introduction of

&
Resolution

characters, the building of tension and suspense

between opposing forces, a confrontation, a climax and
then a resolution. Can this be applied to the structure of
your film and if so, how?

Write a brief paragraph about how you intend to end

your film. This is important because it will determine
what you leave the audience thinking about and
remembering. You dont want to finish on a dead note or
in a dull way. You might think back to your beginning
and make a full circle by coming back to that point
somehow.

Scheduling Do you have a target audience and how can they be

defined? Be as specific as you can.

What suggestions do you have for the scheduling of your

documentary? Is there any particular time in the year,
day of the week or time of day/night when it should be
shown?

Look into the scheduling of documentaries on ITV. When

would an appropriate time be for the showing of your
documentary on ITV? (You must attach search to
support this)
