A. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Briefly state the chief objective of this position and age group(s) to be served (If applicable):
Performs dose calculations; develops and implements conventional and advanced image based computer treatment
plans; designs and fabricates treatment aid devices; and monitors in-vivo patient dose measurements. Enters patient
information into the treatment delivery and verification system; performs weekly patient chart rounds in compliance
with Quality Management Programs; instructs radiation therapy students, medical physics residents and medical
oncology residents in fundamental dosimetry applications.

on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited
program

Describe independent action(s) required:

Actions carried out by Dosimetrists without prior approval include routine computer and simple
calculations for radiotherapy treatment planning, image acquisition, consultation, treatment aid device
fabrication and dose measurements with thermoluminescent dosimeters. Supervisory advice and
guidance are given for any non-routine or complex treatment planning and/or calibration.

Performance Expectation: Treatment Planning


Performs 2D and 3D treatment planning as well as documents work in a timely and accurate
manner to ensure proper patient treatment.

Performance Expectation: Special Procedures


Performs one or more of the following special procedures: Stereotactic, Intensity Modulated
Radiotherapy (IMRT), Brachytherapy, TBI, or TBE. Non-certified Dosimetrists only participate in
TBI and TBE and IMRT.

Performance Expectation: : Consultation


Provides consultation concerning patient set-up, simulation, and/or given case dosimetry with the
attending and Resident Physicians, Therapists or other staff involved in the patient's case.

Performance Expectation: Academic. Educational Involvement


A high volume of Radiation Therapy Students, Oncology Residents and Physics Residents rotate
through dosimetry and each Dosimetrist is assigned specific tasks to teach on given days.
Dosimetrists are encouraged to partiCipate in helping Physicians, Physicists or Dosimetrists in
doing research projects and/or preparing for educational presentations as their workload allow.

PartiCipates in a rotational schedule of weekly chart rounds.

Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the
mission of VCUHS and department.
