6. Pre-lesson assignments and/or prior knowledge:


The students have been learning different sounds when combining letter such as th and sh.
The students will have heard the teacher pronounce ch before this lesson.

7. Lesson Beginning:
To start this lesson, the teacher will write ch on the whiteboard. The teacher will then ask Does anyone
know what sounds these two letters make? The students will then say the sound ch makes. The
teacher will then put a sticker with the words ch on their chin. This will remind the students that the ch
sound is in chin.

8. Instructional Plan:
The teacher will then introduce the read aloud for the day. During the read aloud, the teacher will instruct
the students that every time they hear the ch sound, to point to their chin. The teacher will also point to
their chin, every time there is a ch sound in a word.
After the read aloud, the teacher will give instructions for the ch book.
The teacher will model each word to determine if it has a ch sound.
The teacher will finish the read aloud with riddles. Each answer will have a ch sound in the answer.
After the teacher has modeled the worksheet, the students will be dismissed to their table to complete
their ch book.

o Differentiation:
The teacher will help the struggling students to tap out each word.
Early finishers can color the ch words.

o Questions:
Does anyone know what sounds these two letters make?

o Instructional Management:
The students will be dismissed to their table by table color after their read aloud.
The teacher will pass out the worksheets.
The students will use crayons from their baskets.

o Transitions:
The students will sit in their rows.
The teacher will dismiss the students by table color.

9. Closure:
When students finish their ch book, the teacher will check for correctness.
After the students finish the ch book, the teacher will then give each student their own ch sticker,
