Your Name: Katelyn Tamaray Date of Activity: August 22, 2015 Faculty name: Mary OConnell
Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with
(be specific about the purpose and your role):
The professional activity that I attended was an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support class.
The purpose of this class was to educate students on how to diagnose and treat cardiopulmonary
arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes. The goal of this course is to
improve patient outcomes. My role was to attend this class to be further educated on
cardiopulmonary resuscitation and be certified in ACLS.
Where was this held and what was the program/activity length?
This activity was help at St. Josephs hospital and the activity lasted for eight hours.
Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).
The reason I decided to take this class was to further enhance my knowledge on
cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as become certified in ACLS. Many hospitals require that
their employees are ACLS certified and I believe taking this class before applying to jobs would
benefit both my future employer and I.
Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why
or why not? (Describe)
Yes I would recommend this professional experience to others in the future because I believe this
education is beneficial to those in healthcare. Although basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation
information was discussed in this class, my medication knowledge and electrocardiogram
interpretation was further enhanced. I thought this was a great refresher class to take after third
semester it helped solidify what we learned that semester. It also prepared me for my
preceptorship in fourth semester.
