Reflective Essay
Coming into English 115 I really had no idea what to expect from the class. In high
school English was my strongest subject. Although a little nervous coming into this
English class I was confident in my writing skills, I felt my one year AP English literature
prepared me but little did I know I was in for a rude awakening.
Before the semester started when I was choosing my classes for this fall semester I
was not paying attention to what the class was on. So when I arrived here the first day
and was informed on the topic of Social Gender I was a bit nervous. I believe I was
nervous because I dont recall really doing much in high school about gendering. I came
into the class with only my personal views and thoughts on gendering. From what my
teachers taught me in high school when I graduated I was a pretty good writer. When I
reached English 115 I realized after the first essay that it was going to be difficult writing
on a topic I didnt had not read or studied about. Even though I struggled I enjoyed the
difficulty level and was something that helped build my skills. This class helped me
reinforce my rhetorical device like ethos, logos, and pathos. Argumentative writing skills
improved as in my high school argumentative writing was taught towards the end and had
a very short and brief exposure. Some of my strengths as a writer would be the actual
writing of the essay. Getting straight down to writing the essay is what works best for me.

Starting the plotting of what Im going to write is sometimes the hardest thing,
brainstorming is hard for me as my attention span is horrific.
One aspect of my writing that made me proud was actually being able to
understand the prompt. During high school I had a very difficult time understanding what
the prompt was asking me to write. Before I improved my prompt analyzing skills I
would waist a lot of time racking their brain. Thankfully I learned in the beginning very
good methods of how to understand the prompt and a good way to start introductory
paragraphs. The templates on the home page of the 115 is something I would credit to
