The iPad becomes a great tool to individualize instruction; this

paired with a SMART board to project the text on the wall work great
together.
Today, students were asked to do a self-evaluation in preparation for
Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students were encouraged to
respond by marking a number (1-3) on how well they are doing so
far this year. The question What does evaluate mean? This is
going to be a grade that you give yourself. Each question was
projected on the wall. Students were given an opportunity to read
out loud. To help them answer the question I think Im good at, the
specific words were highlighted at the top of the page like a word
bank. Individual aides assisted students to answer the questions in
the whatever way they were able. One was guided to write a
sentence. One traced the word that the aide wrote on the paper.
Maddy did a nice job of using high level vocabulary throughout,
expecting students needed to hear it even if they dont currently use
the words. Students were allowed to help with the short
presentation of coins.
All coins (nickel, dime, quarter) were counted by 5s with touch
points. This allows them to count mixed coins.

Assessment (AEA: Diagnosis/Integrative Interaction WTS: 8, 9

DISP: Collaboration, Communication CEC: 1, 5, 8, 9, 10)

Knows how to select and construct assessment strategies and instruments.

Uses appropriate assessment techniques to enhance his or her knowledge
of learners, evaluate students progress and performances, and modify
teaching and learning strategies.
Solicits and uses information about students experiences, learning
behavior, needs and progress from cooperating teachers and the students
themselves.
Evaluates the effect of class activities on both individuals and the class as
a whole, collecting information through observation of classroom
interactions, questioning, and analysis of student work.
Uses classroom observation and information about students as sources
for evaluating the outcomes of teaching and as a basis for reflecting on
and revising practice.

Formative assessment was basically questions throughout the

lesson. The cooperating teacher interjected periodically with
appropriate review questions. Its always good to draw connections
to past learning.
The presentation included a sorting task that worked as a quick
assessment as well. Each student was allowed to choose 3 coins to
identify and sort. This could have been made harder by telling each
student which coin to find and then how much that coin was worth.
Time ran out for the physical activity which would also have been a
great assessment.
