Learning Disabilities

Learning Disabilities are neurologically based and they deal with how a
person
processes information, rather than how smart a person is.

Possible Symptoms:

Trouble memorizing things
Working at a slow pace
Trouble following directions
Trouble staying focused on a task
Difficulty understanding abstract ideas
Lack of attention to detail
Too much attention to detail
Poor social skills
Disruptiveness

Common Learning Disabilities and the Parameters


of Speech:
o Auditory Processing Disorder
o Have difficulty with phonology
o Language Processing Disorder
o Dyscalculia
o Affects persons ability to understand numbers and learn math
facts
o Dysgraphia
o Affects persons handwriting and fine motor skills
o Bad handwriting, trouble with spelling, difficulty putting things on
paper results in poor syntactical abilities
o Dyslexia
o Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities
o Pragmatic difficulties: discourse and conversational management
o Cannot understand sarcasm, cannot tell important parts of a
story
o Abstract thinking and relationship problems
o Visual Perceptual/Visual Motor Deficit
o Affects understanding of information a person sees or draws
o Dyspraxia
o Affects persons motor skills
o Speech difficulties results in phonological difficulties

o Discourse: delayed expression and word finding difficulties


o Sensitivity to touch, taste, and smell
o Have difficulty with eye movements
